Type: Full-Time

Job Description:

Marketing Director, Early Portfolio

The Early Commercial and Portfolio Strategy team works to secure the long-term commercial competitiveness of GSK’s vaccines portfolio.

Our portfolio strategy work covers our portfolio of marketed vaccines, and our portfolio of vaccine candidates still in development.   For both portfolios, we set priorities among what we already have, and identify the most important gaps we want to fill.

We are the permanent commercial member of the company’s Life Cycle Management, Development and Research Boards.   We manage Vaccines’ participation in the joint Pharma-Vaccines Forecast Review Committee that validates the forecast assumptions for investment decisions.

Our Early Commercial work includes preparing the commercial assumptions and forecasts consistent with the clinical development plan, and where appropriate advocating for changes in the plan to increase the potential value of an asset.

Having set strategic priorities, we coordinate and track the implementation through the commercial organization and across all Vaccines functions.  We run a small number of core business processes that maintain strategic alignment within and across the Vaccines business.

We are looking to recruit a Marketing Director, Early Portfolio. He or she will apply marketing expertise and customer insight to define the claims required for each candidate vaccine to be as competitive as possible.

As Marketing Director, Early Portfolio you will focus on the market share potential of our candidate vaccines, and the total sales potential of the market(s) for which we develop them.

You and your team will be the commercial partners to the R&D project teams.  You will define and assess the different commercial possibilities for each candidate in advance of every investment decision.   Your overriding aim is to define the optimal commercial claims for launch and lifecycle development, and work with the R&D teams to ensure development plans have the potential to deliver these claims.   You will pay close attention to the robustness of different assumptions and the related sensitivity analyses.  You and your team will work on 20-30 candidate vaccines each year.  The majority of GSK Vaccine’s R&D budget of ~£700m pa is invested in candidate vaccines in early and late stage development and your work will influence how this money is spent.

  • You will lead and develop a team of marketing professionals.

  • You will lead a significant step-up in the capacity of Early Commercial Marketing in GSK Vaccines, which is part of GSK’s commitment to increase robustness and accountability at the R&D-Commercial interface and improve resource allocation.  This commitment manifests itself in the Vaccine Profiles, the Forecast Review Committee (for late-stage development decisions, Vaccines and Pharma combined), and the Early Forecast Review Committees (separate for Vaccines and Pharma).

  • In the short term you will align your team to deliver the Vaccine Profiles and Forecasts to the existing schedule of investment decisions, with continuous improvements to consistency and quality.

  • Over the medium term you will evaluate current ways of working and – in conjunction with key stakeholders – confirm or re-define them to ensure your team is set up to deliver the new ambition

  • You will keep in close contact with Early Commercial colleagues in GSK’s pharma division, to share experience and to ensure that the work of your team is equivalent in terms of robustness and presentation
