Mars Wrigley Route To Market is one of our main spend areas today, a large overhead and a critical growth driver. This Route to Market transformation is a key priority for Andrew Clarke and the Mars Wrigley Leadership Team. 

 

Historically Route to Market sales teams have been shaped and implemented based on more gut feel and historic trends rather than data and facts, this transformation aims to change that and implement more rigour into our strategy and decision making. As Mars strives to ‘digitalize’ it’s a suitable moment to strengthen our capability in data & insights and shift the organization in this direction. 

 

This role will be pivotal in the delivery of key savings through a partnership between Global Sales, markets and Digital Technologies where hypotheses will be generated and tested using data before implementing market wide strategic changes. In parallel the objective is to build each market’s data & insight capability enabling them to self-sustain and produce and test hypotheses of their own, creating a virtuous cycle of improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

This Route To Market analytics role is responsible for driving forward advanced analytics capabilities in partnership with our global route to market teams. A successful candidate will leverage their business acumen and understanding of advanced analytics capabilities to help lead a team to develop and provide actionable insights for solving business problems or finding opportunities for profitable growth in Retail for global Mars Wrigley.

 

You will work & collaborate with the Business Partnership, Global Analytics, Data & AI teams, but it is expected you are solving problems in close collaboration with users from our segments & markets around the world.

 

Working in a small team of experts across Business Partnership, Data Engineering, Business Translation & Data Sciences you will partner with Product Owners and users to unlock route to market efficiencies through hypothesis generation and testing; then work on a plan to embed those capabilities within markets.  

 

Within this team, you will:

 


  • Partner with Route To Markets Analytics Senior Lead to assist in delivery of advanced analytics capabilities for Mars Wrigley route to market teams

  • Assist in planning global roadmap of analytics capabilities and deployments

  • Partner with vendor to help shape Route To Market Analytics capabilities roadmap

  • Good knowledge and understanding of Sales function, work with key Sales stakeholders and Analytics Senior Lead to understand their challenges and frame hypotheses together.

  • Excellent understanding of advanced analytics capabilities

  • Fully understand when it is appropriate to use the different techniques based on business need and data available.

  • Provide expertise on statistical and mathematical concepts to key stakeholders

  • Leverage technology to increase efficiency and productivity throughout the entire organization and act as a subject matter expert for information platforms and analytical/technical tools.

  • Understanding of Mars Data Lake and internal analytics capabilities

  • Ideate and build early perspectives on actionable insights to the problem and work with the decision science team to prove/ disprove the hypothesis, continuously iterating as new information and/or insights come to light

  • Help the decision science team with business context and provide necessary feedback during the analysis phase to ensure the outcomes deliver insights that are needed by the business

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build and manage relationships, including stakeholder management

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • CPG and Retailer knowledge, including knowledge of syndicated data sources like Nielsen/ IRI, and Shopper card.

Context and Scope:

 


  • This is a temporary role ending in December 2020 required to deliver RTM transformation

  • This role will assist in the delivery of analytics for Route To Market in Mars Wrigley

  • This role will deliver advanced analytics techniques, data exploitation & manipulation in support of the delivery of advanced analytics solutions

  • It works with other MIS functions including Infrastructure, Development, Services & Architecture to deliver solutions that deliver business value

  • It interacts directly with the business in developing solutions that solve specific business challenges

 

Job Specifications/Qualifications:

 

   Education & Professional Qualification:

 


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, Advanced degree preferred

 

   Knowledge/Experience:

 


  • 2-5  years of experience in insights role, applied data science role, or equivalent; ideally in a CPG, Telecom and Financial services

  • Ability to tell a story using data from primary, secondary and third party data sources

  • Knowledge and experience in modelling techniques and advanced applied skills (e.g. significance testing, GLM/Regression, Random Forest, Boosting, Trees, text mining, social network analysis, etc.) using tools like Spark, Scala, SAS, R, Python, Bayesia, H2O, Storm, Yarn, and Kafka

  • Experience querying databases (SQL, Hive)

  • Experience working with big data platforms such as Hadoop ecosystem (Azure), including in-memory solutions (SAP HANA and Apache Spark)

  • Working knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, D3, ggplot, to deliver output to the broader business community to improve decision making and productivity

  • Experience working in a matrix environment where creating collaboration and influence are required for generating results

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to influence and present effectively

  • Comfort and good intuition around modelling techniques and advanced applied skills (e.g., Regression, Customer life cycle value, A/B testing)
