Under general supervision, isolates and makes cultures of significant wine microorganisms, identifies microorganism by microscopic and other examinations. What You Will Do:
Monitors all winery processes for any activities which would/could impact microbial stability.
Reports on and acts as a liaison with other departments on microbiological and sanitation issues.
Collects and processes microbial samples, prepares media, records relevant information, and generates various reports.
Works with customers to identify and troubleshoot sources of contamination.
Uses polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to identify yeast and bacteria.
Identifies microorganisms by microscopic examination of physiological, morphological and cultural characteristics.
Participates in the planning and organizing of field inspections, tests and surveys related to research projects.
Maintains collection of specimens for study or reference purposes.
Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.

What You Will Need:
High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate.
Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or Biology; or 4 years of Microbiologist or Laboratory Technician experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
Required to lift and move up to 25 lbs.
What Will Set You Apart:
Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or Biology plus 1 year Microbiologist or Laboratory Technician experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
Experience reading, analyzing and interpreting general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
Experience writing reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
Experience effectively presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
Skilled in the intermediate use of MS Word and Excel and the basic use of MS Access, PowerPoint and LIMS.
Type 35-40 wpm.
Skilled in mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Experience applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Experience solving practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Experience interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Experience applying established procedures to situations that are non-routine in nature requiring some evaluation, originality, and ingenuity.
Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of this particular field of specialization.
