The Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute (VGTI) at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) has assembled a multidisciplinary team of scientists to respond to serious viral disease threats, including AIDS, chronic viral infection-associated diseases, newly emerging viral diseases and infectious diseases of the elderly. Our programs are intended to span the continuum between basic and clinical science, in which discoveries are rapidly advanced from the level of molecular and cellular biology through animal models and ultimately into clinical testing. The development of this unique program in immunology and virology provides an important training opportunity for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at OHSU. This is why an important part of our mission is the training of young scientists in newer academic disciplines emerging at the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute.
Function/Duties of Position
The primary responsibility of this position will be to operate flow cytometers, collecting sample data in support of ongoing Picker Lab pathogenesis and vaccine studies. This supervised responsibility includes working with other cytometer operators in a team, maintaining the equipment, preparing calibration samples, and QC-evaluating data. A possible secondary responsibility will be cross-training on sample collection procedures, which would involve handling pathogen-containing samples, and working at a biosafety containment hood. This variable shift full-time position typically starts at 4:00pm, but the person hired may be assigned to a different shift, including mornings, as needed to fulfill department requirements as they arise. Overtime may be required as needed.

Bachelor's degree (4 yr.) and no experience OR AA (2 yr.) and 2 years of relevant experience OR no degree and 4 years of relevant experience

Science or medical-related college degree
Laboratory experience, especially in blood processing
