Pharmacy Legal Contract Consultant - 

 PS20351Location: Wallingford, CT


The Pharmacy Legal Contract Consultant is responsible for enhancing the profitability of the pharmacy and medical segments by providing support for drug utilization opportunities via contracting negotiations and contract language development. This position works closely within a team environment to develop contract strategy and provisions as necessary to accommodate business needs. In addition, this position will collaborate regularly with the legal department and other areas to ensure alignment and compliance of contracting developments. This position will also oversee departmental processes to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures, and advise of operational improvements where necessary.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:



  • Supports all contracting efforts from initiation to execution, utilizing Anthem standard business practices

  • Oversees contract compliance and renewal

  • Collaborates with Anthem legal departments on contract-related issues

  • Works closely with data analytics to track contract performance and compliance

  • Performs data and financial analysis of drug categories, including utilization patterns, increasing trends, etc. to identify opportunities for new revenue

  • Assists in developing and maximizing the profitability of pharmaceutical manufacturer rebate contracts

  • Develops and provides reports and data feeds for internal and external use

  • Collaborates with external vendors on matters that impact department, including audits 

  • Assists and supports development of other service fee contracts with pharmaceutical manufacturers related to drugs or therapeutic classes for both the pharmacy and medical benefit.

  • Investigates and reports on issues

  • Supports and answers inquiries from both internal departments and external parties

  • Provides input and receives guidance on issues, challenges, and solutions related to formulary positions, rebate contracts, pharma programs and initiatives


  • Requires a BA/BS degree 

  • 3 years of legal contract management experience or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. 

Additional Requirements:

  • Prior experience with contract management, including knowledge of contract language required

  • Knowledge of legalese and impact to contractual language preferred but not required

  • Intermediate level of proficiency in Excel

  • Ability to work independently and part of a team 

  • Ability to collaborate with various departments to resolve issues in a timely manner

  • Experience and knowledge of pharmaceutical products, including familiarity with pharmaceutical and health care terminology, contract terminology and service agreements preferred but not required.

  • Juris Doctorate degree a plus but not required
