Job Description:

The Compliance Specialist will manage and perform technical tasks associated with a portfolio of compliance projects for a variety of commercial clients. Complex technical/regulatory challenges are anticipated. This individual is also anticipated to assist in developing strategic plans, conduct marketing and support proposal efforts to secure additional work in this area of expertise.

  • Manage a Tetra Tech proprietary environmental tracking and notification program and database

  • Prepare, assign, and review Permits, Compliance Plans, and/or
    Reports (SWPPPs, Wastewater Discharge Permits, etc..);

  • Plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate detailed phases of technical regulatory compliance work as part of a major project or as a standalone project;

  • Serve as a project manager on various types of compliance projects;

  • Serve as technical lead or task manager for projects with complex regulatory scope;

  • Prepare project proposals and successfully complete the awarded project in accordance with the proposal schedule and budget;

  • Interface with Client Project Managers, government regulators, and other stakeholders;

  • Travel to client offices, attend regulatory agency meetings, attend public hearings, and participate in field visits based on project requirements;

  • Participate in marketing and business development efforts;

  • Perform and/or manage Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments


  • Bachelor's Degree in an applicable field (i.e., engineering, science, environmental studies, or a closely related discipline).
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience with a minimum of 5 years of experience focused on compliance interpretation and regulatory review.

  • Knowledge of environmental compliance programs at industrial facilities involving multimedia (e.g., waste, water, and air) and a demonstrated knowledge of applicable regulations and reporting requirements.

  • Interpret current and future local, state, and federal promulgated regulations and properly apply to compliance activities.

  • Candidates must have experience providing strong technical direction/support regarding permitting and project implementation.

  • Experience in multimedia environmental remediation programs or projects under various regulatory venues including RCRA, CERCLA, TSCA, and state-led programs is a plus

  • Experience with Air Permit Determinations and/or Air Permit Application preparation is a plus;

  • Environmental Auditing experience is a plus;

  • Experience with CERCLA, RCRA, and UST investigations is a plus; and

  • Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) or other professional registration is a plus.
