JOB PURPOSE

NMC’s Technician Development Advisor assists with the training and development of Caterpillar service technicians in a shop environment.  The expertise of the Technician Development Advisor is complementary to the NMC Technical Training Department, Service Management, and other lead technicians in the Machine Group. This individual will help further hone skills and develop the individual skillsets of the technician workforce.

ROLE OBJECTIVES



  1. Technician Development



    1. Provide technical development and coaching to Caterpillar Machine technical staff on areas of need.


      1. Identify areas of personal development for technician personnel in and document within HRIS.

      2. Report individual training and development needs to Service Manager and Branch Operations Manager.

      3. Monitor progress over the course of the year to determine if progress is being demonstrated.






  2. Service Management

    1. Assist with project quotes and collection of relevant technical data to help ensure projects are completed in a timely manner.

    2. Collaborate with Service Management to determine training that helps facilitate in improving flat-rate variance and overall shop productivity.





ESSENTIAL/PRIMARY JOB DUTIES                                                                                                                  


  • Assists shop with learning proper troubleshooting techniques as it relates to various Caterpillar systems and components including, but not limited to, Caterpillar construction equipment, engines, hydraulic and electrical systems.

  • Helps technicians understand how to test various machine systems and compare test results to specifications to determine if the systems are working as designed.

  • Trains technicians on how to write service and warranty reports for every machine repair in detail.

  • Helps technicians understand how to determine what services are required to repair the machine and performs failure analysis.

  • Teaches proper use of tooling, including but not limited to: service manuals, operations manuals, and computer programs and resources and parts books effectively to address technical issues.

  • Assists other technicians as needed on repairs.

  • Adheres to all customer care standards.

  • Follows all safety policies and procedures, including contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations. Reports potentially unsafe conditions. Uses equipment and materials properly. Attends safety meetings as required. Maintains tools in good working order as per MSHA and OSHA regulations. Maintains a clean work area in accordance to contamination control and NMC standards.

  • Participates in all job-related training and applicable development classes to maintain current knowledge base on machines serviced by NMC.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:


  • High School diploma or equivalent required with 3 years of experience working in a similar role/industry and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required. OR Vocational training/Associate’s Degree in Applied Diesel Technology. preferred and 2 years of experience working in a similar role/industry and/or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

  • Experience diagnosing and repairing heavy/agriculture/fleet/auxiliary/EPG/generators/lift trucks/industrial engines.

  • Experience diagnosing and repairing internal combustion engines (2 & 4 stroke, LP, diesel).

  • Experience with various types of systems and components (hydraulics, mechanical, pneumatic, power train, electronic, electrical, air and fuel systems, ac/dc electrical theory, etc.) on a large number of different kinds of equipment.
