Job Description:

Here at LearnWell, we’ve dedicated ourselves to making a life-changing impact on the 10 million students currently in the U.S. who live with some type of behavioral health need (depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, eating disorder, substance use). For nearly 25 years, we have provided on-site instructional services within the hospital setting, helping students to continue their academic progress during treatment and successfully reenter the classroom. LearnWell has a network of 180+ dedicated educators that commit themselves daily to embracing our mission and positively impacting generations to come.

The certified teacher/tutor will work with students on a 1:1 basis in a hospital setting, supporting them academically with common core subjects while they are receiving treatment. The teacher/tutor will meet with each student 5-10 hours per week to review class material by discussing text, working solutions to problems, reviewing worksheets or other assignments. Tutoring is a supplement to classroom teaching; tutors are not expected to know everything about the subject for which they tutor. 

Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following: 


  • Provide instruction of school work on a 1:1 basis. 

  • Assist student in completing work. 

  • Communicate with staff regarding available students and schedules. 

  • Be punctual for all scheduled sessions with students. 

  • Provide encouragement and positive motivation. 

  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction. 

  • Provide appropriate feedback on work. 

  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies. 

  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, hospital and parents regarding student progress and student needs.   

  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities. 

  • Updating daily attendance and creating daily session reports for each student. 

  • Perform administrative duties daily. 

Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following 


  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds 

Knowledge Skills and Ability Required:

  • B.A/B.S degree from an accredited institution 

  • DC State Standard Teaching Certification 

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Strong organizational skills 

  • Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis 

  • Understanding of subject matter relevant to students need 

  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology (Microsoft Office and Sales Force) preferred 

  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total education program.

Position entails a flexible commitment, Monday-Friday(late morning preferred)

Physical Requirements: 

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
