Overview

Job Summary

Markets and promotes awareness of State and EDA products and services focused on small, women, minority, and veteran owned business enterprises and entrepreneurs through outreach directly to businesses and the organizations serving these businesses. Leads the development and implementation of proactive SWMVBE inclusion initiatives which support the EDA's SWMVBE utilization goals.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides technical and analytical support to the Director and department by reviewing and auditing files to ensure department procedures were followed and consistent for proper program monitoring.
  • Assists the Director in evaluating current department procedures and suggests ideas for improvement and assists in implementing changes to support achievement of department goals.
  • Takes the lead of setting up assigned territory and designated chambers, and identifies new presenters and resource partners
  • Maintain and track department inventory of service providers and partners to small businesses throughout New Jersey with a focus on women, minority and veteran owned enterprises and entrepreneurs
  • Review current policy and procedures for the department, assist with revising and creating new policies and procedures for the department on processing applications for loan and grants to ensure information is relayed properly.
  • Perform preliminary reviews of applications before the Director to ensure checklists and policy and procedures are being followed by staff
  • Identify new approaches to support policy and business objectives within our department
  • Builds, maintains and strengthens relationships with organizations focused on small, women, minority and veteran businesses
  • Acts as key representative of the State and EDA for public speaking events focused on targeted segment
  • Works with Public Affairs/Marketing to prepare speeches and remarks aligned with EDA's SWMVBE efforts
  • Collaborates with external business segments and internal departments to identify programming gaps and potential ideas for new EDA programming
  • Maintains, tracks and appropriately communicates EDA's SWMVBE statistics internally and externally
  • Maintains robust department tracking system for activity supporting SWMVBE to ensure information is being relayed properly
  • Handles inquiries from the general public regarding all resources and directs them to Business Development for project assistance as appropriate.
  • Assist and ensure department staff handles customer care line leads to ensure they are addressed in a timely manner and the necessary followup is delivered.
  • Must be willing to go above and beyond to provide a superior customer service to all calls and customer interactions when needed.
  • Inputs client and application information into CRM and updates system on a continual basis when needed. Ensure and track department activity to ensure staff is reporting appropriately.
  • Promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative and customer focused work environment among division, EDA staff and external customers.
  • Assist small business owners pursuing EDA products specific to the Small Business Services department by providing technical assistance through the application process to ensure the applicants are qualified for the appropriate program.
  • Ensure Technical Assistance contract awardees (2) are performing specific duties as necessary to their scope of work. Ensure they are providing deliverable on a monthly and quarterly basis as identified in the contract. Process payments accordingly.
  • Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite specifically Excel and the ability to learn new software packages

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Business Administration, and/or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum 7 years job related experience
  • Experience working with small businesses, especially women, minority or veteran owned businesses, preferred

Advanced degree or industry specific certification may be substituted for 1 year of experience

Physical Demands

  • Minimal: Includes standing, carrying materials and hand-puts, and other audio-visual equipment.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, as needed

Travel

  • As necessary to statewide events, meetings, businesses, etc.

Certificates and Licenses Required

  • Valid driver's license
