3M is seeking a 3M Commercialization Agile Coach to lead 3M's Agile Office and to accelerate Agile commercialization within our business groups and divisions located in Maplewood, MN. At 3M, you can apply your talent in bold ways that matter.  Here, you go.

Job Summary:

The person hired as a 3M Commercialization Agile Coach will be responsible for building and managing the Agile Office at 3M with focus on commercialization.  The Agile Office drives improved commercialization through Agile practices and maintains and adapts the 3M Agile Innovation Agile framework, ensures there are capabilities for knowledge building and sharing across the organization, and builds an internal coaching capability. The person hired will build capabilities within the office, develop Agile strategy and execution tactics for the office, engage with business leadership to identify and initiate transformations, manage the Agile Office backlog and team of Agile coaches, and liaise with leadership and stakeholders within 3M.  The position reports through 3M R&D, but it will be important to coordinate and collaborate with other businesses and functions to maximize the impact of Agile commercialization at 3M.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


  • Champion Agile at 3M for commercialization

  • Identify, engage, and prioritize opportunities to improve commercialization with Agile at 3M

  • Lead 3M Agile Office coaches through a transformation backlog for engaged businesses

  • Provide guidance to 3M R&D, businesses, and associated functions during Agile transformation

  • Establish a self-sustaining, embedded, global coaching capability able to provide just in time ad hoc or engaged coaching to new and existing Scrum teams and leadership

  • Guide establishment of 3M Agile Practice to ensure continual improvement and sharing of good and best practices quickly across 3M Agile Scrum teams and adapt 3M’s Scrum framework

  • Develop and maintain 3M’s Scrum playbook

  • Establish, maintain, and make accessible 3M’s framework and body of knowledge on Scrum

  • Develop a sustainable pipeline of 3M Agile Scrum coaches

  • Ensure that training is consistent with accepted and effective Scrum framework

  • Establish qualification process for external Scrum support resources

  • Provide coaching to leadership and support functions as required

  • Support corporate efforts to encourage and deploy Scrum adaption across 3M

Basic Qualifications:


  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

  • Performed in a leadership role in a successful Agile transformation in at least one (1) non-software organization

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with Agile Scrum in a private, public, government or military environment

  • Experience with non-software Agile transformations

  • Experience developing in-house coaching capability

  • Direct Scrum experience as a team member, Scrum Master, or Agile Coach

  • Experience training and launching new Scrum teams

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience designing and leading multiple legacy to Agile transformations in Fortune 500 companies

  • Scrum Alliance Certified Enterprise Coach (CEC)

  • Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Professional (CSP)

  • Scrum Inc. S@S

  • Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Master (CSM)

  • Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)

  • Direct Scrum experience as SM and PO

  • Experience working on cross-functional teams

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Microsoft Suite experience

Location: Maplewood, MN

Travel: May include up to 25% domestic/international
