KERO-TV, The Scripps ABC Station in Bakersfield, CA is seeking an aggressive Executive Producer to join our news management team. We are seeking someone who is not afraid to take the reins of a newscast, using showcasing skills and production tools to make the newscast sizzle. 3-plus years of line producing experience is preferred.

Must be a news hound and have the ability to find and dig for stories. Qualified candidates will have experience working closely with digital team to create content on all platforms. Must be strong at multi-tasking and attentive to the details but also possesses solid people/management skills. Must be creative, a great writer and can enterprise beyond the news of the day.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a producer looking to make a move into news management. The Executive Producer has overall responsibility for newscasts and all digital content, including oversight on story selection, content, and production, ensuring that the station is competitive within the market.

You Will:


  • Be responsible for working with other news managers to create and manage content on all platforms.

  • Review and approve scripts.

  • Hire and train producers

  • Collaborate with editors, producers and/or the assignment desk to select stories for coverage.

  • Oversee and edit the writing of content, including but not limited to teases and web headlines.

  • Fill-in produce newscasts when needed.

  • Respond aggressively to breaking news on all platforms

  • Provide regular feedback on newscast with staff, both as a team and individually."

You Bring:


  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communication or related field preferred.

  • 3-5 years journalism experience; 2 years previous new producing experience preferred.

  • Knowledge and demonstration of editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws.

  • Ability to create tactics and strategies to increase demo performance in key target areas for multiple platforms.

  • Have working knowledge of federal, state and local laws impacting operations.
