We are currently looking for a dynamic individual as a Operational and Human Safety Specialist at our Advanced Technology Center located in The Woodlands, Texas.

The successful candidate will provide professional Health & Safety(H&S) guidance to our Huntsman divisions and sites in the Americas region; including developing and improving on H&S management systems; conducting H&S audits; and corporate and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will also lead and work with teams, such as the Global Safety Network, on improvement iniatives and provide detailed analysis and recommendations back to Huntsman leadership.

What will be expected from you?
  • Be able to develop and articulate a clear vision and strategy to improve operational and human safety across the company with emphasis on the Americas Region.
  • Understand and be able to articulate various models for industrial safety and apply these in the analysis of current performance, organizations and programs.
  • Form and maintain networks of contacts both internally and externally.
  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with management teams at Huntsman sites in the regions, gaining an awareness of the successes and challenges facing the sites to better provide corporate services.
  • Provide safety related expertise to Divisions and sites based on their request and knowledge of existing programs.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs (including Behavioral Based Safety) to the divisions and sites.
  • Coordinate and host various safety related meetings and projects including the Global Safety Network.
  • Have a keen aptitude for self-development to ensure they remain current in their knowledge of safety, and an open mind to evaluate and consider new approaches and methods.
  • Be flexible and adaptive to select the most appropriate approach and tools for any given situation, being able to quickly assess the maturity of the safety culture and programs in an area/location they are working in.
  • Be tenacious and willing to commit themselves to providing leadership to safety and taking a pragmatic hands on role in driving home safe working practices, driving cultural change, and delivering programs.
  • Be able to command respect at all levels while also being approachable and comfortable working at the most senior and junior levels.
  • Be self-starting in their role, not requiring constant supervision, only general direction, while also providing feedback on their work, issues faced and obstacles to overcome and progress made.

What are we looking for in the ideal candidate?
  • BS in H&S related field
  • Hold professional safety qualifications (Certified by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals preferred) and have good regulatory knowledge within the United States and other Americas countries where sites are located.
  • Be knowledgeable in root cause analysis for incident investigations and capable of leading investigations at sites across the Americas when called upon.
  • Have field experience in a leadership position within a manufacturing facility.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, and be able to engage and inspire their audience.
  • Have a good understanding of human psychology and its impact on safety and safe behaviors.
  • Interpersonal communication skills are required to interface with all levels of management and individual contributors.
  • Ability to think critically, solve problems independently and exercise judgement and common sense.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Have excellent document and report writing skills and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to make frequent overnight trips away from home (20 to 30% of total time) as needed
