Your Opportunity

Working in our Chandler, AZ office, you will assume the role of Senior Piping Designer & Plant 3D Administrator. You would be responsible for developing and coordinating Plant 3D models and electronic documents on both large and small-scale projects within the global Mining Sector.

As a Senior Designer, you will be part of a multi-talented team focused on designing surface and underground facilities in the mining industry. With daily collaboration with other designers and engineers of our multi-discipline team, you will convey electrical, mechanical, civil and structural requirements to the construction team through traditional 2D paper deliverables and/or BIM Plant 3D or Revit models. You will work closely with engineers, project managers and mining specialists as you develop design concepts, create models, and coordinate designs to consider existing conditions and other discipline requirements. The right candidate should have experience with the latest Autodesk design software such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D and/or Inventor. This person should be familiar with 2D/3D CAD fundamentals and be willing to demonstrate their abilities. In addition to project design, the person should be able to administer the Document Control Process. This position will offer you the opportunity to expand your knowledge of design techniques, tools, and fundamentals involved in production of engineering design packages.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the administrator for Plant 3D design software.
  • Create plan drawings and details for deliverables.
  • Participate in project meetings as required.
  • Complete miscellaneous tasks to support project development.
  • Work under direct supervision of Design Engineers will be responsible for the complete design and documentation package for discipline deliverables.
  • Work from schematics, sketches and verbal instructions.
  • Assist other designers with project deliverables.
  • Report project progression updates and/or issues to Project Leads.
  • Execution of mechanical and piping designs.
  • Develop P3D specs and setup P3D Projects.
  • Create general arrangement drawings based on P&ID.
  • Develop 3D models utilizing drawings, sketches, and design skills. Checks and navigates in the 3D models for interferences and constructability.
  • Support Designers, Engineers, and Project Managers to assemble technical document packages, including P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, discipline specific drawings and manufacturer specification sheets.
  • Create, review and update required submittal documentation for all technical document packages.
  • Work with internal/external customers and vendors to ensure all drawings and submittal packages are accurate and complete per requested design criteria.
  • Maintain records and revision history, including the release and update of all engineering documents, work instructions and other paper or electronic documents.
  • Reports project progression updates and/or issues to Lead Designers.
  • Develops sketches to accompany concept documentation.
  • Assist with checks on design for consistency, safety, operability and maintenance requirements before submitting to checking.
  • Resolves checked drawings; prove and understand comments made.
  • Produce deliverables as required to fulfill project needs either as an individual contributor or as part of a team of engineers and designers, dependent upon project size and scope.
  • Knowledge of standard computer drafting tools (i.e. REVIT and/or Autodesk Inventor).

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Advanced knowledge of Autodesk software including AutoCAD, Autodesk Plant 3D and Navisworks (2017 or higher).
  • Ability to work with point clouds as part of the design process is a requirement for this position.
  • Experience executing multi discipline designs in an integrated approach.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task from project to project.
  • Ability to resolve conflicting situations.
  • Must be able to conceptualize in a 3D environment.
  • Understand and adhere to all applicable drafting standards and verify completeness of design drawings.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings of all disciplines not required but preferred.
  • Contributing team member with good interpersonal communication (verbal and written)
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Desire to learn and follow the company's procedures and processes with a willingness to be open-minded.

Additional assets, skills and experience include:

  • Ability to perform field walks, which may include climbing ladders and walking/standing for extended periods of time.
  • Experience with design of Mining facilities and infrastructure.
  • Experience with BIM 360.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Proficient in math as it pertains to design work.
  • Experience in an industrial and / or mining environment is preferred not required.
  • Proficient in 3D modeling using REVIT or Inventor a plus.

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree in CAD Design or Engineering Technology desired but will consider experience in lieu of education.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in piping design industries.
