Job Description:

This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining software suites for the Fluid Mechanics product line. The software interfaces with a large variety of control devices such as cameras and lasers in order to collect and process data for visualization. Position will also be responsible for leading the fluids software team in researching, estimating, and executing new product implementations as well as existing product updates.

  1. Work with project team to develop Microsoft Windows based object oriented software products and algorithms for the Fluid Mechanics product line.
  1. Work closely with project and product managers through the full life cycle of software development including requirement specification, design, implementation, testing, and releasing.
  1. Lead the design and development of software in support of the Fluid Mechanics value stream.

  1. Responsible for providing work direction to individuals or a group of engineers with respect to the project or tasks in order to meet project deadlines.
  1. May serve as a technical lead on projects and provide guidance to other engineers.
  1. Responsible for bringing the project group to a higher level of engineering skills coupled with the ability to work cross functionally with manufacturing, marketing and sales to move a project forward.
  1. Design and implement system level tests to validate project work.
  1. Occasionally travel required to attend conferences, present technical work and to visit customer sites to provide customer service support.
  1. Work cooperatively with other departments to develop best practices.
  1. Estimate task duration and resource requirements for project schedules.
  1. Review solutions with other engineers and project managers when necessary.
  1. Develop solutions that address abstract problems with no concrete solutions.
  1. Responsible for providing strong documentation and specifications on project work.
  1. Work cooperatively with other departments to develop best practices.
  1. Participate in design reviews. Give critical and constructive feedback to improve the reviewed designs.
  1. Follow all safety guidelines and report unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  1. Other duties as assigned.

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil or Chemical Engineering with a computational fluid mechanics focus is required.
  • PHD in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil or Chemical Engineering with a computational fluid mechanics focus is desired.
  • Minimum one year experience conducting fluid mechanics experiments using laser optical diagnostic techniques (e.g. PIV, Volumetric/TOMO PIV, LDV, PDPA) is required.
  • Minimum one year experience in programming software for fluid mechanics experiments related to development of data analysis algorithms is required.
  • Experience in Object-Oriented programming, .NET programming using Visual C/C++, GUI design, and multithreaded programming is required.
  • Understanding of Software tools such as MS Visual Studio, Jira, and Bitbucket
  • Experience working in and leading project teams of other engineers is required.
  • Experience in implementing image processing, correlation and particle tracking algorithms for PIV and volumetric PIV is strongly desired.
