Position Description

Primary Purpose:


  • Full responsibility and oversight for day-to-day chemical operations involving more than 15 contracted customers and at least 20 different chemicals.

  • Process owner responsible for ensuring a Safe work environment, high Quality customer service, and an Environmentally compliant terminal operation.

  • Lead in the development and implementation of procedures, training programs, a safety and quality oriented culture, execution of activities within budget, accurate inventory, compliance and regulatory matters.

  • Manage 50-100 supervisory staff and bargaining unit employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and continue to develop supervisors to lead, train and develop bargaining unit employees for safe-handling of chemicals via Marine, Rail and Motor Carrier.

  • Ensure all operations personnel are operating in a safe manner, wearing proper PPE and following procedures.

  • Management responsibility for customer fulfillment and operational excellence

  • Implement and Oversee training program for new and current employees

  • Participating in customer meetings and act as liaison between commercial department and customer

  • Participation in negotiations with the bargaining unit

  • Responsibility for financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting

  • Manage overtime and other operational costs.

  • Manage Operations and Maintenance Budgets

  • Prevent, investigate, and follow up with all incidents.

  • Foster growth and development of KM safety culture among all employees

  • Participate in and promote regional and/or corporate initiativesTake ownership for service, maintenance and capital assets

  • Assist in the standardization, implementation and maintenance of standard operating procedures for terminal operators.

  • Routine interface with maintenance, engineering and other terminal support teams

  • Routine communication and coordination with Customer Service Group and the regional Commercial group.

  • Continuously look for better and more efficient ways to improve operations

  • Work off hours as needed and after hours calls and respond to terminal as needed

  • Other duties as directed or required


Position Requirements

Minimum requirements and any additional preferred education or training:

  • Bachelors degree or commensurate education and experience in operations/engineering of a terminaling facility, chemical plant operations

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Minimum experience, skills, knowledge, certifications, licenses, competencies, working conditions:

  • Extensive background in Chemical terminal industries

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills for a multifaceted work environment

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communication attributes

  • Detailed oriented and customer focused

  • Focus on results when surrounded with distractions

  • Willing to take on other duties as needed without assignment; ability to take initiative, exhibit self direction and work with co-workers as a team to accomplish goals for a fast paced challenging environment

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers

  • Familiarization with local and Corporate PC management applications including Word and Excel

  • Ability to troubleshoot operational problems associated with equipment with some experience with automated truck loading racks

  • Familiarization with applicable regulatory requirements for the handling, storage and transportation of various hazardous materials including D.O.T., USCG., F.R.A., F.D.A., DPPC, TPCA, CGMP etc

  • Ability to drive initiatives for establishing the KM safety culture initiatives

  • Ability to manage multimillion dollar budgets and apply financial analysis

  • Physical requirements include but may
    not be limited to walking and down stairs/ladders, negotiating uneven surfaces, and carry up to 50 pounds.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Must be able to wear standard PPE

Preferred experience, skills and knowledge Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:


  • Multi-discipline technical expertise (electrical, instrumentation, mechanical)

  • Specific knowledge of regulations such as DPCC, DOT, RMP/PSM, OSHA, OQ, industrial hygiene and other industry regulations

  • Experience with supervising/managing in a union environment

  • Profit and Loss management skill.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Supervise Department Managers and supervise Union and Non-union employees
