Job Description:

POSITION INFORMATION:   Provides technical and professional health care in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in collaboration with the neonatal health care team.  Performs assessments, therapeutic planning and care, evaluation, counseling, collaboration, communication, and continuing education. 


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:


  1. Assessment
    and Care
    .  Obtains and documents
    intrapartum and postpartum maternal history and identifies high risk factors
    affecting the infant.  Performs neonatal
    assessments and differentiates between abnormal and normal physical and
    psychosocial status of infants. Obtains and documents pertinent history, lab
    values and diagnostic test results and systematically develops and documents
    plan of care during stabilization, transport and beyond in collaboration
    healthcare team.

  2. Therapeutic
    Planning
    .  Develops and implements
    therapeutic plan of care for safe transport and care in accordance with
    protocol and under the ongoing direction of the extended health care team. 

  3. Care
    Stabilizes and resuscitates infants in the delivery room, during
    transport, and in the NICU in collaboration with the healthcare team.  Assists in and performs procedures as
    indicated per protocol and under the supervision of established neonatal health
    care team.  Analyzes lab data, x-rays,
    and other pertinent information and responds accordingly.

  4. Evaluation.  Evaluates neonatal patients and families,
    effectiveness and appropriateness of medical care, and outcomes.  May collect and present data and
    statistics. 

  5. Counseling.  Provides counseling to the family concerning
    their neonate, medical procedures, long-term effects, etc. 

  6. Collaboration.  Collaborates with other healthcare
    professionals to provide efficient quality patient care. 

  7. Communication.  Communicates with physicians, referring and
    accepting physicians, nurse practitioners, nursing staff, and families.  Presents progress of neonate through both
    written and oral reports.

  8. Continuing Education.  Plans and participates in the outreach
    teaching and in-service education of nursing and medical staff.  Maintains clinical competencies, appropriate
    licensure's, flight safety and certification requirements, and stays abreast of
    current developments.

  9. As Needed.  Performs
    various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

 

Experience:  24 months experience in a level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit


Certifications/ Licenses:  Registered Nurse Licensure in the State of Oklahoma, BLS, and CPR certification, certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program. 


Equivalent/ Substitution:  Will accept an Associate’s Degree in Nursing and 24 months professional nursing (RN) experience for a total of 48 months experience in a level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit


Preference:  12 months experience in a  level 4 NICU
