Set up and operate a variety of computer-controlled and mechanically controlled machine tools to produce precision metal parts, fixtures, instruments, tools and connector assemblies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Perform work safely and per company safety policies and work instructions.
Support Manufacturing and Engineering by making Special tooling, fixtures and automated equipment on-time and to print per engineering drawings.
Set-up and operate various machines such as lathes, mills, grinders, wire EDM's and heat-treat ovens -- producing parts to print.
Utilize various inspection tools and equipment to ensure parts meet the drawing requirements.
Effectively communicate with various departments and internal customers to ensure work is produced to expectations.
Meet quality, service, cost and efficiency objectives for each assigned work order.
Support walk-in work as assigned and make repairs and/or replacement tools (with or without Engineering drawings) to support production requirements.
Review tooling & tooling instructions as part of connector design.
Identify problems and make recommendations for solutions.
Support continuous improvement activities and kaizen events in all departments.
Assist in developing, designing, drawing and modifying test fixtures, tooling and parts for R&D.
Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands/arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift/move weights up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 60 pounds.
Ability to review and understand engineering drawings, customer provided part drawings, manuals specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished parts, sequence of operations and set up requirements

Clear ANSI Z87.1 safety rated glasses are required for the job when in the manufacturing areas. Safety toed shoes or boots (ASTM 2413-11 standard) are required in specific manufacturing areas.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent
Two years formal vocational training.
Ten years' experience in metal working industry with thorough knowledge of machining, tool making, fabrication and assembly of machined components.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
State Certified Tool & Die Journeyman papers or equivalent experience.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
Math skills required to support a standard tool room - Basic math, Trigonometry, GD&T.
Ability to read engineering drawings.
Ability to proficiently use CNC and manual mills, lathes, grinders and EDM machines
Thorough hands-on knowledge and skills related to the use of precision measuring tools, such as micrometers, indicators, height gauges, gage pins and optical comparators.
Be self-motivated and can lead and work well with others.
Understands drafting principles.
Proficient skill with AutoCAD; Solidworks; or other 3D drafting software
Ability to professionally work with peers and internal customers.
Demonstrates the ability to develop tooling, complex machinery, and processes to produce error free product and successfully transfer tooling and processes to full production.
