*** This is a full time Maintenance and Repair Reefer Mechanic position ***

APL is looking for a dedicated, hardworking reefer mechanic with experience in the transport refrigeration equipment repair field. Technician needs to be team-oriented, committed to quality work and a quick learner. This position focuses on refrigerated containers for marine cargo/intermodal transport.

Responsibilities: Include but are not limited to:

  • Performing preventative maintenance procedures and repairs on Thermo-King, Carrier, Daikin, Star Cool, and other refrigeration equipment for refrigerated containers with little or no supervision
  • Diagnose and repair/replace compressors, coils, electrical components, etc…
  • Use diagnostic equipment to flash controller, diagnose alarms, implement repairs, etc…
  • Use repair orders to record all work performed and submit on a daily basis
  • Maintain work area in a clean and organized mann
  • Follow established procedures to track work and complete forms connected with work assignments
  • Ensure timely completion of work according to company regulations and procedures, and instruction from Foreman, or Manager

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Working experience with refrigerated equipment, preferably within the transportation industry.
  • Experience operating service trucks and forklifts.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable under the employer's insurance policy
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local government and company standards for reliability and safety
  • Familiar with Thermo-King, Carrier, and other transport refrigeration equipment
  • Have good verbal and written communications skills
  • Familiarity with the maritime containerized cargo industry and port terminal operations.
  • Certified to use refrigerants, R134a and R404 and others as needed
  • May be required to use a laptop computer to diagnose and/or reference repair manuals
  • May work in a shop, at our yard or out of a mobile service vehicle
  • Must be willing to work emergency after hours on-call rotation
  • Willingness to perform additional duties/assignments as may be required by management
  • Willingness to work all required shifts, including weekends and holidays.

This will be a union represented position. Membership/payment of dues with the IAM will be required after 31 days of employment.
