Job Summary

Under the direction of the Project Director of the Educational Talent Search/Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP), the EOP Specialist implements and coordinates student programs, special projects and administrative functions for the ETS/EOP Program. The incumbent will advise students and implement student events and projects. In addition, the EOP Specialist works closely with the Director and the Outreach Counselor(s) to coordinate administrative functions and special projects for the ETS/EOP Program. The incumbent is readily accessible to faculty, staff, students and parents/family members and coordinates communication and student case management. In addition, the EOP Specialist works collaboratively with the team of ETS Outreach Counselors and school administrators to ensure high-impact operations and student services.

Specifically, the EOP Specialist provides academic, career, and educational counseling, as well as technical assistance with the entire admission and financial aid application process. The EOP Specialist also provides motivational support, academic counseling and acts as advocate for program participants. The EOP Specialist will be administratively responsible to the Project Director but will work closely with high school and human service agencies in the target areas to ensure that project participants attain their educational goals.

Core Competencies

Strong verbal communication skills including phone and in-person. Strong written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, handle and prioritize simultaneous projects. Computer literate – Microsoft Office. Can analyze problem or procedure and make logical and timely decisions. Valid driver’s license – ability to travel to target schools, agencies, and workshops. Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of individuals who have been traditionally underrepresented in higher education. Ability to effectively understand and make self-understood to a diverse constituency both inside and outside the university. The ability to work Saturdays, evenings, and to travel.

Education

College course work in Education, Social Work, Counseling, Communications or related field required. Bachelor's degree level preferred.

Experience

1 year work experience in Education, Counseling, Social Services or other related field. Knowledge of high school curriculum, college and higher education programs a plus. Ability to manage details and effectively plan program events. Passion for educational outreach and working with youth. Exceptional customer service skills.
