The Department of Political Science seeks someone with strong communications and administrative skills to further the research and faculty development missions of the Department of Political Science. The person in this position will work closely with Department Head to develop and execute a communication and outreach plan to raise the visibility of the department, its faculty, and their research accomplishment among external and internal audiences and track the success of communication campaigns. Strong skills in organization, writing, editing and design needed to produce content in multiple formats for web, newsletter and social media platforms. The position will assist with planning and coordinating research-related events and publicize them through multiple outlets to multiple audiences. This position also plays a key role in faculty affairs administration and all phases of faculty career development including recruitment, hiring, tenure, promotion, and retirement. Administrator works closely with the Head to implement and assess strategic initiatives to increase high-impact research and research-oriented programming. Serves as liaison between the Department and other internal and external units related to faculty development, research, communications, and outreach. May involve occasional evening or weekend events and has options for occasional travel, though travel is not required. Applicants must submit a cover letter along with resume and application.
Two or more years of experience in in a collaborative administrative or communications environment
Ability to successfully manage workflow and meet deadlines in a multi-process environment along with experience in managing projects and meeting goals while working both independently and as a team member
Strong written/oral communication with ability to customize information about academic research to different audiences using different platforms; strong design skills
Experience in website and/or webpage design along with experience using current social media platforms
Strong organization and interpersonal skills with ability to multi-task
Ability to deliver high-caliber results with integrity befitting the Purdue University brand
Ability to search for and synthesize information from a diverse array of sources and synthesize material for others in multiple formats.
Knowledge/skills to plan strategic use of social media, web marketing and traditional media, impact of
Strong skills in in Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, WordPress, Tweetdeck, Hootsuite or others
Strong skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Adobe Cloud applications, Photoshop or other photo editing software and web design software
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Communications, Political Science, Graphic Arts or a related social science field
Experience using Success Factors, Concur, Cascade and other university software; Familiarity with statistics programs such as SPSS or Stata
