Responsible for providing advice and counsel on increasingly complex legal and regulatory matters and projects impacting the organization. The Assistant General Counsel II should have a thorough understanding of healthcare related laws and regulations, and their interpretation and application, as well as familiarity and expertise in one or more subject matter areas. The Assistant General Counsel II is expected to be capable of leading and managing an increasing volume of work and scope of issues/projects, which may involve transactional work, complex regulatory issues, compliance investigations, or other matters. He or she will also be involved in drafting and reviewing contracts, furnishing advice and input to the organization and its leadership on strategic, operational, and regulatory matters. Drafts, reviews and participates in the negotiation of contracts, joint ventures, and affiliations. Possesses a growing understanding of operations in light of regulatory and strategic imperatives. Works with other members of the Essentia Health Legal Group and other management team members on matters involving patient care, medical staff, and other critical issues arising at Essentia Health’s various hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities. The Assistant General Counsel II will have a level of practice autonomy and perform essential functions at a level deemed appropriate by the Chief Legal Officer considering years of experience, academic background, training, command of applicable legal principals, interpersonal skillset, and organizational demand.
Work Experience: Minimum of six years’ experience as an attorney handling complex health care-or employment-related matters in either an in-house, law firm, or other comparable setting.
Juris Doctorate degree
Current Minnesota, Wisconsin or North Dakota Attorney’s license or eligibility for licensure.
