ASCO 2020 Summer Internship Program

At ASCO, a division of Schneider Electric, we view internships as a chance for students to complement their classroom training with real-world experience. We are seeking intellectually curious, determined Mechanical or Industrial Engineers to join our Manufacturing team as 2020 Summer Interns. As an industry leader, our summer internship positions provide opportunities to gain valuable experience while applying their academic training. Interns are assigned a mentor who will direct their internship experience.

Project assignments will be commensurate with the student's academic background to take advantage of their technical expertise and provide real life application of their classroom knowledge. At the same time, opportunities will be provided for students to expand their knowledge outside the boundaries of their classroom experiences.

Internship Goal:

Provide college students with the resources necessary to challenge convention by thinking innovatively, performing effectively, and executing perfectly.

Manufacturing Engineering Summer Intern will get exposure in several areas - creating work instructions, assisting with plant layout documentation, organizing electronic documentation and data gathering. Projects would include exposure on:

  • Hands on plant, process and product orientation.

  • Create or update Work Instructions from a prioritize list of needed work instruction.

  • Work with manufacturing engineers on identifying correct processes for documentation. Then observer the process, gather data from the operator and take digital pictures of the process. Enter the data and pictures in to a standard template to create a work instruction detailing each step needed to complete the process. The work instruction is then reviewed and processed for approval.

  • Assist Mfg. Engineering in the creation of 6S layouts in AutoCAD for both Fab and ATS assembly

  • Intern will take approved documentation and make sure the electronic copies are placed in the correct folders.

  • Intern may also be used to gather data on production improvements or cost reductions.

  • Intern will also assist with inventory and other normal manufacturing process as needed.

  • Assist Mfg. Engineer with creating and documenting routing data for Welcome to be used creating a tool for costing and building new routings.

Our internship program focuses on a competency building approach. Successful interns will improve on the following competencies throughout the internship program:

  • Analytical Skills: Able to apply concepts to manufacturing engineering projects

  • Decision Quality - Make decisions based on a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment; sought out by others for advice and solutions.

  • Presentation Skills - Able to research, compile, and deliver a technical and creative presentation to peers and management; demonstrate oratory skills as well as technical facts throughout presentation

  • Self-Knowledge - Recognize personal strengths and weaknesses; gain insight from mistakes

  • Planning - Scope out length and difficulty of tasks and projects; sets objectives and goals; anticipates and adjusts for problems and roadblocks; measures performance against results


  • Active college student having completed at least 2 years toward a Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
  • Ability to commit to a minimum 12-week, full-time, summer internship program

  • Able to work in the office environment and in the production areas.

  • Computer skills - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, digital pictures; AutoCAD experience would be a plus

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States, will not now or in the future require sponsorship by the employer.

  • Leadership, club and/or organizational involvement

  • Ability to demonstrate and excel in the above listed competencies

  • Capable of working independently on assignments, willing to accept mentor coaching

  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse work environment

  • Previous professional or internship experience related to this position

  • An active interest, fresh ideas and a desire to learn about manufacturing engineering
