Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

Reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications and be responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with local, regional and national media to maximize coverage and exposure for FIU Athletics through both traditional and new media sources. Duties include, but are not limited to, writing (press releases, media guides and website), layout and design (media guides, website and other publications), editing and record keeping, as well as all gameday obligations of assigned sports while assisting with football.

* Publicizes every aspect of Intercollegiate Athletics. Arranges photo sessions as needed for individuals and special events, as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director. Maintains internet pages, posts releases and photographs.

* Generates, updates, and maintains publicity though new media. Creates an on-line following in which to promote intercollegiate athletics. Promotes the intercollegiate athletic department's web site by producing updated content daily.

* May supervise federal work-study personnel, and/or part-time employees/interns, when requested.

* Creates and edits pitching stories for promotion of intercollegiate events, coaches, and student-athletes.

* Procures game operations personnel for events as needed following prescribed University procedures for employment sign-on.

* Adheres to the strict confidentiality of personal and academic data pertaining to each student-athlete. Responsibility for direct interface with the athletic department's academic support unit and resultant availability of confidential personal and academic data pertaining to each student-athlete.

* Receives assignments or evaluates new leads to develop story ideas. Gathers and verifies factual information regarding story through interview, observation and research.

* Serves as the intercollegiate athletic departments reporter, gathering information in a variety of ways, including tips, press releases, interviews, and other sources.

* Coordinates the content and layout of all printed material, and the organization and planning of social events.

* Collaborates with External Relations in all collateral materials to ensure brand integrity

* Maintains confidentiality for the department. Treats with utmost confidentiality and sensitivity any matter pertaining to medical, academic and personal data of student athletes and any information either directly or indirectly impacting the University and/or Athletic Department.

* Adhere to all State of Florida, University, NCAA, Conference USA and department rules and policies pertaining to the position of Assistant Sports Information Director.Report any known NCAA violations or concerns to the Director of Athletic Compliance and be responsible for the monitoring of any subordinate as it relates to NCAA regulations.

* The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed.

* Organizes material, determines slant emphasis, and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two (2) years of appropriate experience.

DEPARTMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

* Experience working in a collegiate athletic environment.

* Experience in the sports information field.

* Experience with recording and reporting stat-crew.
