Automated Test Applications Engineer

The Automated Test AE Team in the Americas Support organization has an immediate opening in Austin, Texas for an Applications Engineer focusing on Aerospace/Defense and Government (ADG) test applications. 


Within the Support organization, Applications Engineers are responsible for Industries and Applications targeted for investment by the Sales, Business Units and R&D organizations. Successful AEs enjoy working with customers on a variety of challenging technical assignments that ensure project success and enable growth within key areas of our business. AEs form trusted technical partnerships with our customers and create mutual value by guiding system design, development and deployment decisions. As internal NI system users, AEs are in a unique position to recommend application improvements that strengthen the value NI delivers to our customers.


As a Staff ATE Applications Engineer, you will work with senior AEs to enable Automated Production Test (APT) customer success. Within the first 6 months, you will build application knowledge and software engineering skills as you work with a cross-functional team on a customer project. Within a year, you will acquire NI product certifications and develop industry acumen that will enable you to continue building your career.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver application support to customers individually and through cross-functional team

  • Perform project-level scoping and estimation

  • Organize and execute a variety of complex tasks

    • Deliver application feedback 

    • Capture recurring pain points associated with target applications

    • Clarify feedback as needed by ADG Business Unit and R&D

      Key Performance Objectives

      • Build reputation with customers as a technical collaborator

      • Anticipate needs and discover unexpressed needs

      • Share application knowledge to clarify customer’s situation

      • Evaluate options and make effective recommendations

             Job Requirements

            • US Citizenship

            • Ability to obtain a security clearance

            • STEM-related bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience

            • Work location in Austin, Texas

            • Availability to travel up to 25%

             Preferred Experience

            • Experience working with aerospace, defense, and/or government customers

            • Professional experience with the following NI Products as a central part of your current or previous role (all not required but depth and breadth will strengthen your candidacy):

              • Software:  TestStand, LabVIEW, LabVIEW FPGA, Linux, Linux RT

              • NI Hardware: FlexRIO, High Speed Serial, ATCA, Oscilloscopes, USRP, VST, DMMs, SMUs, Synchronization, cRIO

              • Application Areas:  Software Defined Radar, Electronic Warfare, Beamforming, Test framework/architecture standardization, RF physical layer measurements

            • Text-based software programming experience (Examples: C/C++, C#/VB.NET, Python)

            • General electronics test engineering experience

               Preferred Qualifications

              • Security clearance

              • Certifications 

              • LabVIEW CLD or higher

              • TestStand CTD or higher
