Georgia-Pacific has an exciting opportunity for a talented Electrical Engineer to help us focus on our Power Distribution aspects of the facility that supports all equipment within the Palatka, FL Paper Mill.  Located just south of Jacksonville and west of St. Augustine, FL, the Palatka paper mill employs about 950 people, has 6 paper machines with several converting lines, and produces consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels sold under the Georgia-Pacific brand names of Angel Soft®, Quilted Northern®, Brawny®, and Sparkle®. 


 

The Electrical Engineer focusing on our Power Distribution channels will support plant assets across the facility and will report directly to the Mill Reliability Leader.  The individual in this role is responsible for reliability strategies, maintenance support, and improvement of the power distribution infrastructure of the facility.  This individual will also serve as a resource to operating teams throughout the mill providing technical subject matter expertise regarding best practices for and around power distribution systems.


 

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:


  • Create an environment where the team achieves 0 incidents in Environmental, Health and Safety

  • Lead and foster a safety culture that values risk identification and personal ownership, through a principle-based approach

  • Lead by example: safety behavior, safety plan activities and proactive safe work activities

  • Ensure all personnel are trained and comply with all policies and guidelines, internal and external

  • Effectively lead, mentor, supervise, coach and develop a small team of 3 Reliability Technicians with Thermography, Motor Testing, and Valve Repair subject matter expertise; utilizing the MBM Guiding Principles and Operations Excellence tools to improve capability and performance

  • Ensure that individual roles, responsibilities and expectations (RR&E’s) are aligned with mill and organizational goals to assure maximizing real long-term value for the company

  • Coordinate and perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on power distribution systems and components in accordance with regulations, internal guidelines, and utility best practices.

  • Evaluating, coaching, and mentoring the employees on capability and behavioral performance

  • Collaborate with other leaders to insure Power Distribution Asset gaps are identified & addressed

  • Collaborate with owners throughout the facility to drive continuous improvement of Power Distribution specifications, processes, practices, and equipment

  • Hold team and individuals accountable for executing electrical & instrumentation asset strategies

  • Leverage Electrical Engineering knowledge to support the determination of root cause for failure events and implementation of effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence

What You Will Need:


Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering WITH 5 or more years of experience working within an industrial manufacturing operation, OR E&I Journeyman status WITH 8 or more years of experience working within an industrial manufacturing environment as an Electrician OR 5 or more years of military experience working in a Military Power Distribution Unit

  • 1 year or more experience as a supervisor with responsibility for direct reports (i.e. holding personnel accountable, driving behavioral changes, assess, support and improve performance gaps against individual skill capabilities)


  • Experience working in Power Distribution Infrastructure maintenance and operations, to include power transformer and power distribution (23kv, 12.5kv, 4.16kv, 2.3kv, 480v); DCS configuration and programming; Modicon and Allen Bradley PLC programming as well as machine interfaces

  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools in the following manner: Excel – (sorting data, creating tables and creating graphs); Outlook – (scheduling tasks, calendar invitations and general professional correspondence); Word – (document creation/editing)

What Will Put You Ahead?


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Electrical Journeyman License, Master Electrician License, Professional Training Certification, Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, or a Technical degree or higher in Electrical Systems, Instrumentation, or Electronic Technology

  • 5 or more years of experience working as a Power Distribution SME within an Industrial facility or military operation

  • Experience within a professional leadership capability having taken a lower performing team and showing marked improvement in team performance through behavioral change and individual skills and abilities

  • Experience leading a training organization within an industrial environment

  • Experience working within a Pulp and Paper Operations or Maintenance Team

  • Experience working within a union manufacturing environment

  • Experience applying financial and statistical skills within a manufacturing operation to evaluate operational gaps and develop plans for gap closure

  • Experience leading advanced root cause analysis of failures and root cause analysis training

  • Experience with Motor Testing, Thermography, Controls Maintenance, and Process Control
