Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions' Portland, Maine Office is seeking a Mid-level Environmental Scientist / Geologist / Hydrogeologist to support environmental assessment and remedial investigation projects including proposal and work plan development, field operations and staff management, project delivery and report preparation. The Portland, Maine Office is a multi-disciplinary science/engineering/architecture team of 130+ staff that offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects for a wide range of clients throughout the US.

Key Responsibilities :
  • Serve as the Task Manager for components of environmental consulting projects
  • Manage multidisciplinary junior and mid-level staff to achieve task/project goals
  • Responsible for managing field teams in collection of environmental data including organizing field work, assigning tasks, verifying work quality and scope, and working with staff to complete assignments
  • Assist with development of both technical approach and assembling costs for proposals for clients
  • Develop Work Plans for field investigations, including Health and Safety Plans
  • Plan the execution of work, including subcontractor procurement and management
  • Manage and communicate results, budget and schedule information to the client, project manager and appropriate operations management
  • Responsible for data management and data validation processes to prepare data for evaluation and inclusion in reports
  • Primary author for site and remedial investigation reports
  • Motivate, train, and mentor junior staff personnel assigned to his/her tasks or projects
  • Problem solve in a fast-paced environment and consult with senior level professionals when appropriate.
  • Follow company safety policies and procedures, site safety standards, and permit requirements
  • Represent Wood and interact in a professional manner with client or subcontractor representatives while on field assignments
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications :
  • BS/BA or MS in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science or Engineering, or related technical field
  • 5-15 years related experience
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates professional judgment, consistency and attention to detail
  • Experience supervising and acting as a mentor to other professionals
  • Must be a self-starter and successfully work in a team environment
  • Staff management and leadership ability
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours and at remote field sites as required
  • Willingness and ability to engage with regulatory agencies, stakeholders and clients and develop effective team relationships
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project and Access is preferred
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS is preferred
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120

Work Environment and Physical Demands :
  • The position is largely office-based, but may occasionally require work at project sites, around construction equipment, drilling rigs, and environmental contamination
  • Overtime and overnight stays may be required, as needed
  • Will be required to follow all health and safety procedures associated with work environment
  • Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions, including heat and cold
  • Ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time either stationary or walking
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
