AstraZeneca is a global pharmaceutical company. We are dedicated to discovering, developing, and delivering innovative, significant medicines and healthcare solutions that enrich the lives of patients. In AstraZeneca Oncology, our goal is to be at the forefront of developing the next generation of cancer therapies.
A broad pipeline of next-generation medicines is focused principally on four disease areas - breast, ovarian, lung and hematological cancers. As well as other tumor types, these are being targeted through four key platforms - immunotherapy, the genetic drivers of cancer and resistance, DNA damage repair, and antibody drug conjugates, underpinned by personalized healthcare and biomarker technologies.
The Computational Oncology team has expertise in production informatics, bioinformatics and data science and works with our oncology drug project teams throughout the discovery pipeline, from new target discovery to late stage clinical trials.
There exists an opportunity for a hardworking bioinformatician with expertise in the genomics of cancer to become part of a team in the AstraZeneca Early Computational Oncology Production Bioinformatics team. The primary focus of this role is in the area of Early Oncology Discovery, including in-vivo and in-vitro data strategy implementation.
Continuous support and training will be provided for the individual to develop deep specialist knowledge and skill set in the areas of focus.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
There is an exciting opportunity for a hardworking and motivated bioinformatician, eager to bring big and heterogeneous biological data together in new ways, to join the group as a Senior Scientist. In this role you will:
Contribute to Early Oncology Discovery data strategy and its implementation, with focus on Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) data
Manage, analyze, and deliver data from heterogeneous experiments, such as in-vitro pharmacology and functional genomics
Design and apply innovative computational/statistical algorithms and visualizations to: Generate meaningful biological insight from genomic and other discovery data.
Build and steer development of small prototype analysis scripts and programs to the Bioinformatics for the Bench suite of web-based UI tools to reach wide, non-technical audiences
Validate the quality of the datasets using various tools to assess the correctness of the results
Troubleshoot data quality issues by collaborating with Lab and other personnel
Develop, test, and support automated data analysis tools and pipelines
Assist with developing requirements for internal software and database development
