Georgia Pacific Lumber is seeking a highly skilled salaried position to optimize combustion processes and inspect BMS (burner management systems) in lumber kilns, boilers and natural gas burners. This individual is expected to possess multiple skills in both electrical & instrumentation and mechanical skillsets.

Georgia Pacific employs approximately 2300 people in the Lumber Division with 18 operating locations. Georgia Pacific is currently building two state of art lumber facilities. New facilities are being built in both Warrenton, Georgia and Talladega, Alabama. This investment >$250 MM.


A Day In The Life Typically Includes:


  • Apply all applicable NFPA codes, regulations, reliability strategies and corporate and mill standards to identify potential safety gaps and optimize combustion efficiency.

  • This position will involve extensive travel to lumber manufacturing sites.

  • Ability to perform functional interlock tests on BMS (burner management systems)

  • Ability to work with mills to produce cost effective options for BMS critical findings

  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills--produce and review with the location prioritized list of inspection findings

  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues for combustion devices.

  • Lead efforts to optimize the performance of existing lumber kiln heating systems and be involved with specification and start-up of new systems.

  • Assist the Reliability group as a maintenance/subject matter expert in the reliability centered maintenance strategies 



What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Candidates with extensive combustion, E&I experience or 2-year technical degree

  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in project or design engineering or electrical/instrumentation field work

  • Experience in diagnosing and repairing various electrical and electronic equipment

  • Ability to work in a sometimes hot, cold, dusty and noisy industrial environment

  • Capable of working weekends and holidays

  • Ability to embrace and participate in a culture of high safety performance 


What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of lumber kiln sawdust and shavings burners.

  • Experience working in a functioning team environment

  • College degree in engineering or science

  • Experience diagnosing mechanical and electronic systems using computers
