Founded in New York City in 1896 as a charity staffed by volunteers tending to the city's poor, today VOA-Greater New York has 1,300 paid staff that provide life-changing, often life-saving services through 80 programs in New York City, Westchester County and Northern New Jersey.

Battle Buddy Bridge®, a peer counseling program for veterans, and the work VOA-Greater New York is doing to raise awareness of the impact of Moral Injury, are examples of the organization's responsiveness, creativity and life-altering work.
Many of VOA-Greater New York's programs are nationally recognized and meet the rigorous standards of accrediting bodies CARF, COA and the NAEYC. Operation Backpack® is the organization's signature community service campaign that ensures every student who calls a NYC shelter "home" has a new backpack full of supplies in time for the first day of school.
FUNCTION The Mental Health Specialist/ Counselor is responsible for the overall implementation of the individual treatment plan for our clients in accordance with Volunteers of America policies and procedures, program models, funding source standards, and best practices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The position requires a LMSW and two years relevant experience with at least 2 years of supervisory experience or relevant experience in the field.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Lead client treatment and individual service plans from intake through discharge in accordance with the program regulations. 2. Clinical team: supervise case manager and other assigned staff. 3. Maintains contact with community support groups and provides professional expertise as required. Develop program and community resources and provide training and reference materials for staff. Manage sharing sessions for peer skill development and resource sharing. 4. Ensure the provision of quality services, the protection of integrity of adopted models, use of available resources efficiently and achievement of outcome goals. 5. Maintain program record keeping, data collection and evaluation to provide for continuous improvement of case management services, and prepares clinical and progress notes. 6. Monitor funder and agency outcomes and targets. 7. Provide case management services to assigned clients. 8. Provide on call crisis intervention support. 9. Perform other related tasks as assigned.
EFFECT ON END RESULTS 1. Service recipients achieve treatment, behavioral and wellness and recovery goals. 2. Case management staff is effectively supervised. 3. Case management staff is appropriately trained and has access to necessary linkages and resources. 4. Quality services are provided consistent with adopted models, resources are used efficiently and outcome targets are achieved. 5. Case management services are well documented and quality assurance activities provide continuous improvement services. Funding agency documentation and reporting requirements are fully met. 6. Program successfully achieves goals and targets. 7. Assigned caseload is effectively managed. 8. Service recipients and staff are provided clinical support. 9. Related tasks are performed completely, on time and accurately.
