Job Description:


The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) is seeking a motivated, team focused eLearning Developer 2 to join its UConn Online instructional design group. The ideal candidate will have a balance of higher education experience and technological, pedagogical, and interpersonal skills to support UConn's continued expansion of credit and non-credit online courses. The eLearning Developer 2 will use these skills to develop and implement technology solutions that include creative digital graphic design, web design, simulation design, digital animation, interactive course elements, and learning management system use and support. They will work closely with instructional design staff to deliver faculty development and create educational content and online courses. Having experience and skill in both building courses and faculty development, the successful candidate will participate in and lead project teams as they fulfill the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning's mission.

  • Works collaboratively with Instructional Developers to implement a moderately complex and/or unique instructional design plan.
  • Evaluates the use of technology prescribed by the instructional design plans and suggests revisions to faculty and developers, as necessary.
  • Develops academic courses, websites, interactive instructional learning objects, and/or learning modules using course-management software, web authoring tools, and eLearning technologies.
  • Modifies and enhances existing course design through the use of current and emerging technologies, and applying knowledge of educational theory and best practices.
  • Ensures consistency with the vision of the requesting faculty member.
  • Conducts workshops, seminars, and/or other training programs in course design, pedagogy, and the relevant and appropriate use of technology.
  • Provides training on new and existing technology, initiatives, and department policy to colleagues, faculty, and support staff on an individual- or group-basis.
  • Researches and recommends new technologies in the field of education.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with four years of related experience or Master's degree in a related field and two years or related experience.
  • Knowledge of best practices in educational technology and instructional design
  • Knowledge of the use of eLearning development tools and social learning technologies
  • Knowledge of multimedia development including interactive learning objects
  • Skill in technology support in an academic setting
  • Skill in graphic, visual, and web design
  • Skill in developing online courses in a learning management setting
  • Skill in technical problem solving
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to apply ADA or Section 508 compliance standards to web-based instruction modules
  • Ability to understand copyright as it applies to online content and images
  • Ability to respect diversity and work collaboratively with individuals of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means

  • Experience supporting the development of large enrollment courses and/or MOOC's
  • Experience creating and managing course content and activities using OER, third party digital content, and e-learning authoring tools
  • Experience integrating adaptive learning software and products into higher education courses
  • Working knowledge of contemporary educational theories and standards related to the design and development of online, hybrid/blended, and in person courses


This is a permanent full time position. Salary is commensurate with experience.
