Responsibilities

This is an opportunity to join ACT's Strategy at building classroom solutions and migrating some awesome content and monetizing a new channel for ACT. Emerging Technology is responsible for the development, hosting, and production support of all the Learning Business Unit products. The upcoming FY21 is going to be busy and challenging with a real focus on our new acquisition of Scootpad, SimplyAdaptive, and edNexus which was announced by ACT Monday, May 18, 2020. Emerging Technology is looking for top talent in developers, architects, and leaders to help deliver outstanding and on time results for ACT. Are you built for Emerging Technology at ACT?

The Sr DevOps Engineer is responsible for infrastructure and software deployment automation as well as architecting and implementing the strategy. This position works closely with Software Development, QA, Performance, and Security teams to achieve streamlined continuous integration/delivery objectives.



Typical work-related activities include:
  • Creates roadmaps and stories for deployment and automation
  • Using Terraform, builds infrastructure through code to automate the provisioning of application environments including servers, containers, network, and monitoring
  • Provides direction for software development teams to understand and provision the necessary infrastructure to run their applications
  • Using CircleCI, establishes deployment pipelines strategy and implementation
  • Creates reference architecture and steers implantation
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots complex technical problems
  • Guides programmers/developers on technical issues that impact releases, deployment, and delivery
  • Mentors fellow team members and software development teams on DevOps processes and procedures
  • Develops, builds, and designs reusable program elements


Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related area required
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired



Experience:
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible IT experience required
  • Experience with continuous integration/delivery automation tools (CircleCI) and/or experience with infrastructure automation (Terraform) required
  • Experience using AWS Cloud Services required
  • Experience with SQL, mySQL, or Postgres required
  • Previous experience working across teams and multiple projects - providing work direction, training, guidance, and feedback required
  • Experience using software version control (Git/Bitbucket preferred)
  • Enterprise software development experience preferred



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Thought leader and subject matter expert on future technologies used for automation and continuous delivery
  • Knowledge of Linux administration
  • Knowledge of relational databases, database tuning, and performance testing
  • Strong programming skills with at least one dynamically typed language such as Python, Perl, or Ruby
  • Understanding of the Agile development methodology
  • Ability to develop and maintain working relationships across teams
  • Good decision making, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Highly autonomous and demonstrated ability to take initiative
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated ability to support, mentor, coach and advise team members
