Do you have an eye for quality and enjoy implementing and coordinating test processes across a global organization? We’re looking for someone to own the NFC payment certification process and conduct hands-on testing to ensure quality & compliance with industry standards. At Garmin, we utilize NFC technology to make our customer’s lives easier with Garmin Pay; you’ll work on a diverse mix of wearable products across Garmin’s industry-leading business segments and be the focal point for EMVCo and Payment Network Operator certification, as part of the Garmin Pay / NFC technology stack.
 
In the NFC Verification Engineer role, you will be responsible for partnering with internal customers and external vendors to create and implement plans for NFC payment certifications to deliver best-in-class Garmin Pay enabled products on schedule. You will be a part of a team dedicated to serving Garmin’s wide range of wireless verification and compliance needs in a fast-paced environment at Garmin's office located in Cary, NC. Define, plan, and coordinate device NFC payment certification successfully by bringing together stakeholders, establishing milestones, and identifying obstacles on the critical path. Other essential functions include:


  • Maintain and adapt the overall NFC payment certification process to ensure accurate and efficient approvals for Garmin’s global Garmin Pay products

  • Responsible for creating and executing test plans as part of the overall NFC payment certification process

  • Interface to project teams and segments throughout the NFC payment certification process

  • Contributes to research on new technologies, markets, and geographic regions and interprets and communicates changes or updates across organizations

  • Read, understand, and properly interpret requirements to create an overall NFC payment certification plan

  • Coordinate internal and external NFC payment certification testing activities

  • Review internal and external certification reports for accuracy and completeness

  • Identifies and communicates certification-related risks and suggests the best means for avoiding or reducing the risks

  • Provides clear options and leadership for recovery plans as needed, displaying excellence in project management (identifying critical milestones, gating items and priorities, determining deadlines for deliverables on the critical path, and communicating to cross-functional team members)

  • Effectively track, manage and support multiple projects and priorities

  • Travel domestically and internationally to support certification activities

Qualified candidates possess a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or another relevant field from a four-year college or university AND a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience OR Master of Science Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or another relevant engineering field AND a minimum of 4 years’ relevant experience with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher. Other requirements include:



  • Coordinating internal test and external certification activities across a global organization with multiple remote teams




  • Experience with vendor management including creating purchase requests, managing expectations and deliveries and relationship building




  • Ability to explain and document industry standards and requirements across multiple organizations with varying technical details




  • Experience in training other engineers in test execution, debugging and report generation




  • Understanding manufacturing and supply chain issues as they relate to phase-in of certification-driven design changes




  • Demonstrating strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills




  • Strong project management skills




  • Highly motivated and self-directed



Desirable Qualifications



  • Knowledge in scripting and test software creation to enable automation and testing efficiencies. Examples include Python, Java, Kotlin, and RESTful APIs.




  • Experience in working with industry and standards organizations




  • 5+ years of experience performing duties similar to the essential functions of this job description




  • 5+ years in electronics manufacturing, test or design environment




  • Experience creating test plans for NFC payment certifications including EMVCo, MasterCard, Visa and/or Discover payment test frameworks
