Basic Job Functions:
Universal Industrial Gases, LLC. (UIG) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nucor and a well-established, global engineer, constructor, supplier and operator of air separation plants and related equipment and services, based in Bethlehem, PA. UIG owns and operates production plants across the USA which supply both Nucor steel sites and third-party clients 24/7 with tonnage quantities of oxygen, nitrogen and argon as well as exporting liquid cryogenic products by road tanker.
UIG is currently seeking a Junior Project Engineer located in Bethlehem, PA. Under the direction from the senior project engineer or the engineering director be the day-to-day project engineering support or lead for assigned project client(s), to manage project budget performance, schedule progress, expedite execution of engineering design, purchasing and vendor supply, collation and transmittal of engineering documentation deliverables and support for field construction to resolve any follow-up requirements. Manage spending, on-time delivery and client and vendor communications so as to ensure quality, delivery and on-target results for assigned project(s).
  • Lead assigned project deliverables to successful conclusion, managing budget, schedule and deliverables to scope
  • Manage performance to meet critical deadlines.
  • Prepare technical specifications for external vendor quotations.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals as part of the purchasing process.
  • Support technical qualification and approval of vendors and third party engineering work.
  • Manage creation of bills of material, detailed procedures and instructions, specifications as required.
  • Document change orders in required format.
  • Schedule and monitor project progress to help achieve "on-time" and "on-budget" results including follow-up with external suppliers to ensure timely response to action items.
  • Maintain and report ongoing project forecasts utilizing typical capital project tools and techniques
  • Maintain accurate project records and storage for future retrieval of all design and engineering data.
Safety is an important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead and uphold safety practices, policies, procedures and housekeeping standards to make safety a priority at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in a core Engineering discipline
  2. 3 years direct customer and supplier interaction leading capital engineering projects to successful conclusion
  3. Willingness to travel 30% of the time


Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Experience leading engineered and capital projects, read and interpret engineering documentation, client requirements, prints/specs, technical writing, vendor quotations, bill of materials.
  2. Strong computer skills (MS Office, Visio & Project)
  3. Prior project experience in a cryogenic air separation environment
  4. Professional Engineer (PE) license in one or more states.
