Experian's Computer Information Services (CIS) Platform Engineering team is looking for a highly motivated Site Reliability Engineer to work on Ascend, our Big Data Analytics Platform. You'll need deep knowledge on Big Data analytics and public cloud platforms to help us run the Ascend Sandbox and provide the best possible experience for our customers. We are looking for a problem solver with can-do attitude who takes extreme ownership of their work and demonstrates comradery with the fellow team members. This position will start off remotely and then once it's safe to return to offices, it ideally be in our Allen, TX office.

What you'll be doing

In this role, you'll be responsible for availability and reliability of the Ascend Sandbox product. This team is also responsible for continuous product enhancements for Ascend Sandbox and observability engineering for the entire Ascend platform, enabling teams to measure and monitor key performance metrics that matters to them. This is a critical position on our team, so that we can continue building platform capabilities to onboard new customers, contribute to our revenue goals and provide excellent customer experiences.

What your background looks like


  • Solid knowledge on Unix operating system (any flavor of Unix)
  • Decent knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP, HTTP(S), routing and network security) on any public cloud platform, preferably AWS
  • Experience managing large Big Data clusters in production (at least one of -- Cloudera, Hortonworks, EMR)
  • Experience managing Big Data clusters with compute decoupled from storage (Eg: S3) on public cloud platforms.
  • Expert knowledge on Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) and Hadoop YARN.
  • Decent knowledge of various Hadoop file formats like ORC, Parquet, Avro etc.
  • Deep understanding of Hive and Spark compute engines
  • Ability to understand query plans and optimize performance for complex SQL queries on Hive and Spark.
  • Hands on experience supporting Spark with Python (PySpark) and R (SparklyR, SparkR) languages.
  • Experience building and managing tools/services to measure and monitor everything that matters on a Big Data platform.
  • Experience working with Data Analysts, Data Scientists and related AI/Analytical applications like SAS, R-Studio, JupyterHub, H2O etc.
  • Able to read and understand code (Java, Python, Scala, R), but at least can write in one scripting language.
  • Experience managing JVM based applications in production.

Nice to have experience includes


  • Solid experience with overall metrics, monitoring & observability function and products.
  • Experience with at least one Infrastructure As Code tools/frameworks, preferably Terraform.
  • Decent programming skills in Java or Python (preferably Java)
  • Prior working knowledge of Active Directory and Windows OS based VDI platforms
