Accounting Manager at MTD Products Inc in Valley City, Ohio

Job Description:


This new position focuses on all aspects of the accounting function for a large limited liability
company (“LLC”), trusts under management of a private trust company (“PTC”), a large private foundation and
other family owned entities.

Essential Duties:

  • Primary responsibility for the accounting function for the LLC and underlying entities under the direction of the LLC’s Executive Vice President, including oversight of accrual-basis transaction recording, closing of books and quarterly financial statements

  • Establishes, standardizes and communicates accounting related approval guidelines, policies and procedures for the LLC

  • Develops in-house accounting procedures for the large private foundation under the direction of senior management in order to bring the accounting function for the foundation in-house; ultimate oversight for foundation accounting and annual accrual-based financial statements

  • Oversees the accounting function for over 120 trusts under management of the PTC under the direction of the PTC Treasurer, including tax-basis transaction recording, trust accounting income analyses and year-end financial statements

  • Proactively manages bookkeeping and accounting/financial statement related functions including working directly with staff members, including reviewing their work product to ensure quality

  • Continually monitors processes to seek efficiencies and leverage technological resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy

  • Works with other management team members to ensure workflow is properly allocated to staff members and completed in a timely and accurate manner 

  • Supports senior management team members with questions and ad-hoc analyses

Specialized Knowledge/Skills:

  • Understanding of accrual and tax basis accounting methodology

  • Highly developed problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Detail oriented, self-starter with the ability to manage projects including preparing concise, accurate documents and meeting project deadlines

Experience/Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting & Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

  • Minimum of 5+ years tax or general accounting experience working in a public accounting or family office environment

  • Advanced experience with QuickBooks and/or other trust accounting software

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications with advanced Excel and Adobe Professional skills

Work Environment: Small family office environment located on corporate campus in Valley City near Cleveland, Ohio.
