The University of Miami Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Pharmacy Technician.

The Senior Pharmacy Technician, prepares prescriptions for dispensing by the pharmacist and fills stock replacements. Delivers medications to hospitals and clinics and ensures medication charges are processed. Enters medication orders and charges the patient profile and MAR. Assists pharmacists in compounding and dispensing medicines of a special nature that are not readily available from the manufacturers. Assists pharmacists in the aseptic preparation of ophthalmic compounds, injectable steroids, antibiotics, and other medications. Prepares aseptically and labels IV solutions in a prompt manner. Processes all prescriptions for discharge, outpatient clinics, and employee patients. Reads prescriptions promptly and ensures appropriate information is entered into the computer system to generate accurate prescription labels, profiles, and charges. Delivers and files prescription records and patient profiles and stocks medications. Distributes and monitors medications in floor stock. Delivers floor stock and individual patient medications and IV's to and from patient care units. Ensures that pharmacy requisitions are accurately filled and appropriately stocked at all times. Charges or credits departments, clinics, inpatient units, and patients for medications. Assists pharmacists in receiving, checking, pricing, stocking, and rotating orders from wholesalers and manufacturers. Removes unneeded or outdated drugs from stock and prepares them for return or disposal. Maintains a neat, clean, dust free, orderly, well-stocked, and appropriately rotated work area. Serves as a team lead or subject matter expert to other employees. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.


High school diploma or equivalent

Certification and Licensing:



Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
