Position Summary: This position is responsible for supporting the facilitation of a manufacturing team. The primary responsibility is to ensure the team has the tooling, equipment, processes, and procedures necessary to produce high quality parts safely and on time while improving productivity and efficiency. This position will mainly focus in brake shoe fabrication, but flexibility is a must and will be required as this position will help to support various lines. Duties and Responsibilities: • Lead and provide support in the modification, planning, design, implementation, and validation of efficient processes and tooling using lean manufacturing principles and the Meritor Production System (MPS). • Utilize the MPS to conduct assessments of existing or proposed manufacturing processes to provide focused improvement opportunities to increase production efficiencies, eliminate waste, reduce inventory, reduce lead times, increase quality and improve safety and ergonomics. • Work with the material and logistics teams to plan the flow of materials into and out of manufacturing processes to maximize production efficiencies. • Justify and purchase capital equipment/tooling to improve or implement manufacturing processes. • Establish and document production standards and controls, conduct initial time studies and establish labor standards for all products as necessary. • Generate work instructions, process control procedures and operating procedures utilizing visual factory methods in the creation of the work environment. • Work with plant maintenance and contractor personnel to develop and install various equipment. • Work with plant operators to fine tune processes and procedures • Participate in PFMEA analysis, implement 5S improvements, and problem solving/rapid change Kaizen activities utilizing a cross functional team environment. • Evaluate current-state plant layouts and develop future state designs through use of AutoCAD and lean principles • Ability to use 3D modeling to read, modify, and generate new and reverse engineered parts and drawings. • Be a contributing member of a continuous improvement and employee-involved culture
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Team orientation with the ability to work with others. • Hands-on preference to work in manufacturing floor area. • Strong problem solver. • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines. • Continuous improvement driven with a willingness to adopt new ideas/skills. • User of appropriate MS Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint). • User of 2D and 3D modeling software (AutoCAD, Solid Works, and/or Creo). • Highly mechanically inclined. • Experience with IE, Lean practices, and line balancing. • Familiar with SPC, CapEx, and project management. • Tool room experience (mill, lathe, welding, etc.) – tool making knowledge preferred • GD&T is a plus. • Understanding of PLC programming is a plus. • Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies, Greenbelt certification is a plus. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s level degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering is required. (Associates Degree with 10+ years of experience will be considered) • 5+ years work history in a manufacturing production environment • Management experience is a plus Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, you are occasionally required to sit in an office environment, but are mostly required to stand and/or work for long periods of time in a manufacturing environment, wearing steel toe shoes, safety glasses and hearing protection. You must be able to reach with your hands and arms, and carry light, ergonomic loads. You must be able to use a personal computer and various measurement tools.
