Facility Operations maintains our physical campus to support research, teaching, and learning at Indiana University Bloomington. As a unit of Capital Planning and Facilities , Facility Operations provides wide-ranging services -all with the goal of creating a beautiful, well-functioning campus.
Installs, repairs, and inspects smoke and fire suppressions systems; inspects, tests, and repairs fire alarm wiring, fire alarm panels and peripheral equipment. Identifies hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair. Inspects, repairs or replaces smoke/heat detectors and sprinkler heads; repairs and tests dry/wet systems; tests fire alarm systems using appropriate diagnostic programs and equipment. Performs tests on fire pumps and standpipe systems. Ensures that work is in accordance with relevant codes. Performs other general building maintenance as assigned.
High school diploma or GED and a certificate in electrical DOL apprenticed trade with five years of verifiable experience OR associate degree in electronics with two years of verifiable experience.
Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
Ability to successfully complete required training programs. Knowledge of applicable building codes, regulations or ordinances. Ability to learn how to safely use relevant hand and power tools associated with the trade. Ability to read blueprints and schematics. Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner. Ability to use a computer. Ability to use Koorsen diagnostic program and other applicable diagnostic software and equipment.
Working Conditions / Demands
The position requires a considerable amount of physical activity including remaining stationary, mobility between areas and buildings, driving, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, fingering, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds multiple times per shift.
May be required to acquire and maintain OSHA required certifications. Use of computers, meters, stationary equipment and basic hand tools and specialized equipment required.
