This position is responsible for leading the shift and delivering production performance targets through efficient operation of the plant's production equipment, meeting production schedules, maintaining high operating equipment efficiency levels and ensuring that HSE&S practices and procedures are understood and practiced by all employees. This position is the organization's "first line leadership position," having direct influence on delivering the operation's goals of safety, environment, quality, customer service, efficiency and costs.
Setting appropriate goals for the work day, issuing work assignments, and making sure that goals are met through monitoring progress and making real time adjustments, as needed. Dealing with correction of process upsets through responsible analysis, decision making, and use of external resources, if required. Effective interaction with other functions- process engineering, quality, procurement, etc.
Meet performance targets through effective utilization of all available resources:
Conduct a professional shift turnover with peers prior to assuming responsibility for work area and prior to relinquishing responsibility for work area for next shift
Conduct a pre-shift meeting with his/her work team
Conduct a status check of work area to determine real time conditions in preparation for turnover to oncoming peer
Deliver performance feedback to the work group prior to end of shift
Understand and monitor customer service status, in order to identify critical actions that ensure delivery of required customer expectations
Identify, challenge and coordinate the elimination of non-value add activities to improve products, services and processes
Understand and ensure adherence to HSE&S, Quality and operating standards in order to create a platform for continuous improvement and regulatory compliance:
HSE&S (Adherence to Work Instructions and Procedures)
Enforcement of established work rules
Quality system execution
Work Performance/meeting customer service requirements
Deliver appropriate performance feedback
Build an effective team through, training, developing, coaching and rewarding in order to improve organization's capability to deliver results:
Effectively practice employee performance management to link the work group contribution to the site operation plan.

Facilitate effective two-way communication in order to create an environment that emphasizes involvement, creativity, commitment to company objectives.
Responsible for activities related to AkzoNobel Leading Performance System (ALPS), Process Safety Management (PSM), Hazardous Waste Management, Continuous Improvement (CI), Management of Change (MOC), Incident Investigations, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews and other safety related actions.
Experience in a fast-paced industrial environment along with competencies of: results orientation, concern for standards, initiative, and concern for impact, interpersonal awareness, flexibility, and analytical ability is required
Knowledge of Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) / Lean Manufacturing principals and techniques required
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary with the ability to effectively communicate with subordinates, peers and senior level management
Must possess good organizational and planning skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office to include Excel. Must be able to understand, interpret and analyze spreadsheets, trend charts, and process control charts
General Requirements include:
Must be able to move through all production areas, including manufacturing areas/floors. Must be able to stay on feet for 8 - 12 hours each day.
Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds.
Must have good eyesight and hearing.
Must be able to interact with people and settle conflicts
Must be able to wear all required safety equipment and protective clothing as required by law and/or corporate policy. This includes, but is not limited to, safety shoes, safety glasses, ear protection, vapor and dust respirators, safety glasses.
Must be able to comprehend and act upon all job directives, whether delivered in written or verbal English and must be able to communicate well in both written and verbal form.
Must be able to learn and perform all aspects of the hourly jobs. This includes all duties associated with the Paint Operator, Resin Operator and Filler positions.
Bachelor's degree in related field and leadership and/or supervisory experience in a Union or Non-Union environment is required. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 3-5 years leadership and/or supervisory experience in manufacturing is required.
