SUMMARY

Cherokee Nation Strategic Programs (CNSP) is positioned to directly contribute to the Department of Homelands Security (DHS) Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Office Policy, Plans and Analysis directorate and the National Biosurveillance Integration Center (NBIC). NBIC integrates, analyzes, and distributes key information about health and disease events to help ensure the nation's responses are well-informed, save lives, and minimize economic impact. We are seeking a Biosurveillance Senior Scientist to conduct operational, scientific and technical analysis in support of the NBIC.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducts operational scientific and technical analysis in support of National biosurveillance. Leads the development of a variety of analytic biosurveillance decision support products that meet National decision makers' and stakeholders' requirements. More broadly, performs the functions of a technical expert in the relevant scientific field in support of major biosurveillance programs or system development activities. Applies scientific expertise in defining and resolving system issues, performing analysis, and developing plans and requirements for further analysis. Coordinates and manages the preparation of analysis, evaluations, and recommendations within CWMD biosurveillance products in support of federal personnel.

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


  • M.A. or M.S. degree in a scientific, engineering, medical, veterinary, or public health field. Certain position may require a Ph.D.
  • Must have 6 years of experience in a scientific, engineering, medical, veterinary, or public health field such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, bacteriology, virology, epidemiology, toxicology, immunology, environmental science or engineering, physics, mathematics, geology, or other related discipline.
  • Must have at least 4 years of experience providing direct or consultant scientific support to major programs or system development efforts related to biosurveillance.
  • Qualifying experience must be in the natural or physical sciences, engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics, informatics, or related fields

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


  • Current DoD security clearance (preferred)
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust required
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office software (MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Technical skills to conduct analyses, write reports, prepare briefings, and coherently present results
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to collaborate with others on projects and investigations but also work independently when needed
