Job Description:

Job Summary:
Oversees the consumer and small business portfolio of active loans including bankruptcies and charged-off loans in Managed Assets by managing the collections and workouts of borrowing relationships less than $1,000,000. Limits portfolio delinquencies and charge-offs while maximizing recoveries on charged-off accounts. Implements Managed Assets Department (MAD) collection processes to reduce credit losses, accurately monitors risk grades and the migration of risk grades within the loan portfolio. Assists in the translation of collection strategies into clear procedures and in meeting all compliance policies and practices.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Manages, implements and develops collection strategies for all consumer and small business collections in MAD policies and procedures. Manages the day-to-day activities of MAD team members n the Small Business and Consumer Collection Groups.

Makes appropriate decisioning of all requests on loan relationships up to $1,000,000 of all renewals, charge-offs, rate changes, filing suits against defaulted borrowers and settlement proposals.

Provides policy analyses to measure compliance with established policies and procedures, goals and expectations. Ensures that departmental practices comply with applicable compliance regulations, laws and statutes. Maintains expert knowledge of all federal rules and Synovus compliance regulations regarding collections.

Provides key reporting metrics and summaries regarding the performance of Synovus consumer and small business lending portfolios, concentrating on delinquency and loan loss reductions by utilizing and implementing MAD's Temenos Collection System.

Participates in and makes recommendations regarding collection strategy decisions, including litigation, repossession and foreclosures, in the consumer and small business loan portfolios.

Establishes administrative and review systems and procedures to protect the quality and profitability of the consumer and small business loan portfolios

Performs ongoing risk grade analysis of all credits within the Managed Asset's consumer and small business portfolio to ensure proper risk grade compliance in concurrence with the requirements of Synovus and regulatory authorities.

Tracks the migration of risk grades within the consumer and small business loan portfolios and provides the timely and accurate submissions to management.

Manages and coordinates efforts in preparation for audits, regulatory inquiries and reviews.

Conducts ongoing management and reporting of outside vendors, collection agencies and attorneys.

Advises senior or executive management of any material consideration affecting the consumer and small business loan portfolios, collection policies, processes or individual loan transactions.

Manages budget, headcount and overall fiscal responsibility as it pertains to the consumer, small business, bankruptcy and recovery teams.

Maintains and manages staffing levels that can sufficiently accommodate the transfer of new loan relationships.

Manages the annual performance management and merit processes for direct and indirect reports. Coaches and develops team members and builds a work environment where team members are engaged and feel a positive sense of achievement about their role in the company. Works closely with Human Resources regarding employee relations, compensation, training, posting and filling vacant positions and other Human Resources related matters.

Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Minimum Experience:

Ten years of credit, collections and/or commercial banking experience including experience preparing for and participating in regulatory audits and reviews, complying with applicable regulatory requirements, loan underwriting, documentation and collections. A concentration in credit related functions, with a minimum of five years spent in credit functions approving loans, reviewing loan grades and financial statement analysis.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Broad and in-depth knowledge of loan portfolio analysis, consumer and small business credit review tools and their applications

Broad and in-depth knowledge of bank credit policies and benchmarking tools

Knowledge of Dodd-Frank, CFPB, Fair Lending, UDAAP, Fair Debt Collections Act, and flood regulations

Strong comprehension of bankruptcy, repossession, foreclosure, and litigation fundamentals

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Financial Services industry experience
