Job Description:


The Underwriting Support Technician II handles several aspects of policy processing and issuance which include new business and/or renewal preparation, quoting and issuance; endorsement processing; cancellations; and/or all other policy processing associated tasks in accordance with authority level and company guidelines. Products contained within CPP Operations are listed below. These may include a variety of states. This position may have contact with field offices and agents to compile information and communicate to the status of various accounts.

Maintains a solid understanding of AmTrust's mission, vision, and values. Upholds the standards of the AmTrust organization.

Products within CPP Operations include but is not limited to: ASP, ASPP, BOP, CONPKG, CONGL, CPP, CPPCA, E&S, LUM, MOTCAR, UMB, UMBR.


  1. Processes and prepares endorsements, non-renewals notices, or cancellations and other associated tasks as required and within letter of authority, and/or;
  2. Prepares renewals policies for underwriter review and pricing, and/or;
  3. Completes processing of renewals within letter of authority and premium guidelines and/or;
  4. Supports underwriting in the entry and processing of quotes and new business, and/or;
  5. Completes issuance of new business, including Bind On Line.
  6. May perform Clearance on new business submissions.
  7. Manually rates coverages and/or policies that are not fully automated.
  8. May coordinate and manage requests for ID Cards.
  9. May complete/process ICC Motor Carrier Filings.
  10. Provides training to other employees on company products, processing and systems.
  11. Communicates in writing and by phone with agents and field office staff to gather information for risk development.
  12. Recognizes workflow inefficiencies and recommends ideas for improvement.
  13. Identifies system and forms breaks and accurately reports to supervisor, Help Desk, and/or Forms Support.
  14. Promote goodwill for the company with all customer contact.
  15. Achieves and maintains a 95%, or above, Productivity Level.
  16. Achieves and maintains a 97%, or above, level of Quality.
  17. Performs projects and other duties, as assigned.


Authority Level:
  1. Underwriting: Includes all in the Endorsement Triage By-Pass. May also have limited additional authority assigned by Underwriting/Product Managers in a written letter of authority.
  2. Processing Systems: Systems include ANA and CPP Rating; and other company approved systems.
  3. Resource Systems: Oden, Polk, Silverplume, Reference Connect, Pro-Metrix, Lexis Nexis, ISO 360 and any other company authorized resource systems.
  4. Decisions: Must follow established procedures.

Skills/Training Required
  1. Must be able to accurately enter information in a windows-based environment.
  2. Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office Applications and ability to learn new software programs.
  3. Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas, both in writing and verbally.
  4. Ability to follow underwriting direction; recognize and question discrepancies/potential issues.
  5. Well organized and possess good follow through.
  6. Must be customer service focused.
  7. Possess a strong math aptitude.
  8. High school diploma, or GED equivalent.
  9. Must have at least 3 years Commercial Lines Insurance experience.
  10. Must be able to manually rate, where needed; and understand rate development.
  11. Must be able to process several Product types, Lines of Business, and/or multi-state policies.

Working Conditions:

May be required to work overtime as defined by the needs of the department.

The job may require travel, but no more than 5%.

Physical Requirements:

Required use of hands and arms to perform repetitive motions.

Direct Reports:

None. This position is not responsible for supervising any staff positions.

Advancement to an Underwriting Support Technician II requires the employee to achieve the following:
  1. Successful completion of required training for the UST 2 job position.
  2. Consistently achieves an 'Exceeds' or higher Performance rating.
  3. Consistently performs at, or above, a 100% productivity level in current job.
  4. Work is of high quality; consistently achieves a 97%, or above, level of Quality.
  5. The ability to manually rate coverages and/or policies that are not fully automated.
  6. Has strong technical skills and knowledge in multiple Products, Lines of Business, and/or states.
  7. Has the ability to process large, complex policies.
  8. Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate information and ideas, both in writing and verbally.
  9. Demonstrate the ability to work with all level of employees, field office, and agents.
  10. Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives with no supervision.
  11. Demonstrates thoroughness in analyzing and solving problems.
