The position involves assisting ARA Security Engineers with drafting, computer modeling/simulation and other project-related activities to mitigate damage from extreme events such as hurricanes, explosions, and progressive collapse. The Co-op student will be expected to participate on project teams as required, and will receive direct supervision and instruction from more experienced engineers and/or supervisor when working in more complex areas. Support and analysis ranges from document preparation and simple hand calculations to high fidelity modeling of complex structures and systems, depending on the individual's current experience and capabilities. Candidates must be independent, self-motivated, and have excellent technical, communication, and presentation skills.
This is a Co-operative Education position for currently enrolled students. The duration of the position will be for three work semesters, alternating with school semesters, and is scheduled for 40 hours a week. * Pursuing a B.S. M.S. or Ph.D. in Civil, Structural, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with an emphasis in structural dynamics and structural design.
* Applicants will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for a U.S. security clearance. Some items considered for obtaining a security clearance are credit (including bankruptcy), Felony convictions, Prior drug use, U.S. Citizenship, etc.
* GPA of at least 3.00
* Minimum of Sophomore year of engineering coursework
* Knowledge of finite element methods and software is preferred
