The Hydro Engineering Projects group provides fully engineered control system solutions for power plants in North America.  The group focuses on the replacement of existing governor control systems and related equipment and provides all project management, engineering design, system integration, testing, and commissioning services to deliver comprehensive solutions to our customers.

The successful candidate will be an essential part of the American Governor Hydro Solutions projects group with responsibilities for many aspects of retrofit engineering solutions mainly in the North American Hydro power industry.

Responsibilities will include:


  • Develop and design Hydro Governor and Plant Control systems which can include:
  • Understanding technical specifications to develop or apply mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical controls.
  • Design new system functionality as specified by the customer.
  • Understand and program various control logic styles. (Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Flow Diagrams)
  • Work with and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics.
  • Adapt Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) software for new custom applications.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs).
  • Commission new systems at customer sites.
  • Create control narratives and hardware/software test procedures.
  • Become a subject matter expert (SME) for Hydro related controls systems and plant operations.
  • The position requires up to 25% travel.

Required Education, Experience and Skills:


  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited institution, Mechanical or Electrical Engineer preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Hydro Power Industry
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience working with PLC’s and HMI’s
  • Strong autonomous work ethic
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment
  • General experience in programming and data structures

 PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:  

  • Mechanical abilities with creative troubleshooting skills 
  • Solid technical background.
  • Understanding of various control logic styles preferred. (Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Flow Diagrams)
