Staff Project Engineer

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

Uses knowledge of material science, engineering theory, economics and demographics to devise, oversee and plan petrochemical turnaround project logistics, including rigging procedures, lifting plans, vessel design modifications, ASME code welding and other mechanical/civil engineer overview for project execution. Coordinates engineering logistics, development of procedural documentation and implementation plans with all relevant parties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Explores the project's theoretical, mechanical and logistical implementations and provides analysis to safely and efficiently complete project tasks.

- Devise an overall execution plan for the proposed project utilizing theory and computer modules considering all relevant abstract data such as; blue print drawings, estimated cost, feasibility, turnaround logistics, structural longevity, performance assessments, and resources available to complete assigned task.

- When applicable, work directly with Client and or Sub contracted Engineering services for preparation and drafting of drawings, verifies accuracy of drawings, schematics, product specifications, operation/service manuals, and other documentation necessary to facilitate project completion.

- Prepares and/or reviews engineering change requests from customer; discusses feasibility with Operations, Quality Control and Safety Departments; develops and oversees preparation and implementation of all engineering change notices and document change control.

- Provides Estimating, Sales and Marketing Departments with project expectations including financial and man-power requirement for assigned task. Assists with preparation of sales presentations, service/repair methods, and marketing literature, and on-site presentations to customers regarding engineering logistics.

- Coordinates multiple turnaround projects simultaneously, maintains surveys of the progress of the work, and supervises as necessary project execution and or instructions/over-view to ensure work is completed correctly and efficiently.

- Responsible for the research and development of new techniques, tools, methods, or components to enhance or improve existing services.

- Performs other engineering duties as requested by the Manager of Engineering.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

The position reports directly to the Director of Engineering as well as coordinates activities with the Chief Operating Officer, Estimating Department, Operations Department, Project Management, Safety Department and Quality Control Department.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's Degree in either Mechanical or Civil Engineering. Master's Degree is a technical discipline is beneficial.

- A minimum of 3yrs experience in the Petrochemical industry is required.

- A professional engineer (P.E.) or Engineering in Training (E.I.T.) credentials are preferred, but not required.

- Knowledge and previous application of domestic Industry Codes pertaining static equipment such as API/ASME/AISC/AWS are essential.

- Drafting and Modeling Experience with Autodesk platforms is essential.

- Experience with Statically Loaded Finite Element Analysis would be advantageous, but not required. Experience with Rigging and Heavy Lift Operating Equipment would be advantageous, but not required.

- Background of basic welding principles: Processes Selection and Design.

- Experience with the use of Surveying Equipment would be advantageous, but not required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Regular travel by airplane and automobile in conducting business is required, as well as overnight stays to visit project and customer locations. Ability to communicate orally with project management, corporate executives, customers and other co-workers is important. Regular use of a variety of measuring tools, the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential. Activities include but are not limited to extended periods of sitting, standing, extensive work at a computer work station, completing job walks at customers sites, climbing structures utilizing a ladder, donning necessary PPE, etc. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is important for conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect unit plans, blueprints and drawings.

Heavy lifting is not expected. Exertion of up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally is required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculator, copiers, and FAX machines or measuring tools is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The job may be performed both indoors in an office setting and outdoors in a variety of settings including possible hazardous conditions on and around scaffolding or a construction/turnaround site inside of petrochemical facilities. Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, and smoke may occur. Protective safety clothing may occasionally be required including appropriate construction grade boots, gloves, hardhat, goggles, pants and shirt as needed. Activities include extended periods of standing, sitting or kneeling and extensive work with measuring devices and other machinery.
