Job Purpose


The Onboard Human Resources Manager (HRM) is responsible for administering and executing all human resources functions for their assigned vessel at all times. This includes, but is not limited to, the implementation and administration of established Company policies and processes onboard in conjunction with the Corporate Human Resources department. The Onboard HRM is the front line, go-to resource for any and all questions regarding one’s employment, as well as any and all human resources matters onboard.


 


Duties & Responsibilities



  • Administers and executes all human resources functions for their assigned vessel, as well as consults the Vessel HR Director, as applicable

  • Serves as the HR advisor and consultant to the management team onboard the vessel

  • A partner of the Corporate HR department in maintaining company culture, standards of service and operating principles among crew

  • Handles all onboard employee relations matters including, but not limited to, coaching, disciplinary actions, investigations, performance management and training

  • Adherence and confidentiality to various policies such as HIPPA

  • Audits and ensures full compliance with crew articles, alongside marine management.

  • Coordinates and facilitates New Hire Orientation and RESPECT Service System trainings within 3 days

  • Must interact with all employees and guests in a professional and friendly manner, as well as be visible and available for employee needs

  • On call 24 hours a day for regular communication with management/crew and emergencies; radio must remain on at all times

  • TBD: Work with the appropriate members of operations to institute all COVID-19 operational plan protocols and procedures onboard

  • Liaise with Corporate HR team on any HR needs or assistance required onboard.

  •  Responsible for booking emergency travel for crewmembers via Concur and occasionally, transportation to/from airport to vessel

  • Manages turnover day for employees, in conjunction with the Hotel Director or Head of Department, including: confirming crew travel schedules; create turnover report; assign safety stations; manage berthing/cabin changes; cabin inspection notifications; crew ID cards; crew cabin keys. All turnover duties must be done in a timely and efficient manner.

  • MXP: entry of new hires into MXP, maintain crew turnover reports and responsibilities; enter onboard training information; enter disciplinary actions and other notes as necessary; update TWIC information; enter/edit rotations; run reports as necessary. This system must be kept detailed and up-to-date

  • Manages and maintains harmony in general crew areas; check in on employees regularly and keep presence/watch in crew common areas; address any non-compliance issues among crew as necessary.

  • Conduct crew cabin inspections, in conjunction with operations, which includes oversight and coordination of follow-through, general assessment and upkeep of crew living standards in compliance with Company policies

  • Maintains the organization of employee uniforms and order/complete requisitions as needed

  • Maintains positive communications with crew including maintenance of employee bulletin boards and/or messaging systems; works in conjunction with Corporate HR regarding required legal postings and benefits postings

  • Serves as witness during disciplinary action meetings onboard as required by the disciplinary action policy

  • Trains, assists and coaches HODs on drafting and administering coaching and disciplinary action documents

  • Coordinates crew communications (birthday, holiday, other special events) in conjunction with the Captain and Hotel Director, as approved and applicable

  • Coordinates and maintains crew rentals (i.e. DVDs, bicycles, laptops) as applicable.

  • Order/requisition supplies per policy.

  • Actively promotes the safety of all crew and encourages and directs others to engage in positive safety behaviors

  • Coordinates and maintains RESPECT Service System and all tasks therein to keep the program alive, including training of employees

  • Ensures crew behavior and performance supports the company’s mission, vision, values and operational procedures

  • Follows company values and operational procedures in responding to others in work situations.

  • Meets “standards for service” behaviors as defined by the service system

  • Uses recovery steps to respond to others who are dissatisfied.

  • Makes hospitality standards an important part of day-to-day duties.

  • Be a RESPECT Service System example for others.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 


Minimum Qualifications & Requirements


Education:



  • HS Diploma or equivalent required

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent of experience, preferred in related field

Professional Certification(s) or License:



  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) – if applicable, and/or ability to obtain and maintain

  • Copy of DD214, if Veteran status

Skills & Abilities:



  • Advanced MS Office skills required - must be proficient w/ technology, learn systems quickly, have an extreme eye for detail and understand various HR data tracking systems

  • MXP skills preferred

  • Experience building and maintaining positive relationships

  • Experience in conflict resolution and workplace investigations

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proven track record of working successfully in a team environment

  • Ability to multi-task in a high pressure environment with shifting priorities

  • Ability and willingness to give presentations to large groups

  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency and efficiency

  • Must be detail-oriented and extremely organized

  • Must be willing to accept changes of direction in work and priorities with a positive attitude

  • Must be a proactive thinker and constantly think ahead to better serve our customers, both internal and external

Experience:



  • 2-4 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of this position

  • Cruise industry experience preferred

Other:



  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident/incident testing.

Working Conditions:


The majority of work is performed in a Marine environment in both indoor and outdoor conditions with exposure to various temperatures and weather conditions, along with a moderate to loud noise level. The Marine operation is subject to varied wake and motion. This position lives and works onboard a vessel, on a rotational basis for consecutive port-to-port voyages during the regular season.


Physical Requirements:



  • Must be capable of performing emergency duties as listed in the vessel’s station bill

  • Ability to stand and walk on nearly a constant basis

  • Ability to bend, rotate and reach frequently

  • Ability to carry, push/pull and/or lift materials weighing upwards of 50 lbs.

  • Ascending/descending stairs or ladders safely

  • Ability to manipulate/handle/grip materials required to perform job

  • Ability to maneuver through/in/around small and/or confined areas within the vessel

  • Must be able to maintain both static and dynamic standing balance to complete various duties associated with job

  • Crew bed/bunk equipment are rated for 250 lbs. maximum weight capacity per bunk.
