Staff Analyst, Technology at FINRA in Rockville, Maryland

Job Description:

Major Purpose:
The Staff Analyst will guide individual product features through the development lifecycle, from initial scoping through to production roll-out to ensure an excellent outcome. Staff Analysts will be able to represent the business user to the delivery team and anticipate the needs of the end user.

Essential Job Functions:


  • Determine the requirements for a feature or enhancement using techniques such as user interviews, group feedback sessions, and direct observations.

  • Use analytical skill, in-depth knowledge of department policies and procedures, and experience with department systems to improve and enhance systems through the project’s life cycle.

  • Coordinate across departments with business customers to proactively identify opportunities to improve business processes and to identify/document/resolve issues as they arrive.

  • Document new features and enhancement requirements.

  • Conduct research needed to meet the needs of the end user and clarifies requirements, provides feedback, and tests changes.

  • Support end-user feedback activities, such as, user acceptance testing and demonstrations.

  • Work with end-users to gain understanding of the work they perform and how they use the product.

  • Collaborate with senior business analysts on gathering and drafting requirements for developers.

  • Demonstrate the ability to obtain and articulate a detailed understanding of the business being analyzed including the organizational structure and relationships that exist between business units and an understanding of the business impact of the request being addressed.

  • May use SQL to analyze data sources and check for anomalies.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline with at least four (4) years of related experience, or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline with two (2) year of related experience, or equivalent training and / or work experience.

Working Conditions:


  • Work is normally performed in an office environment.

  • This position requires occasional travel.
