The shift for this position is 5:30a-2p.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Assembles surgical instrument trays and pans and delivers sterilized items to the operating room.


• Assembles special procedure trays for such complex surgeries as open heart, transplant, major orthopedic surgeries, neurosurgical, laparoscopic, and spine surgeries.


• Accountable for the care and handling of instruments and equipment in designated service line(s).


• Responsible for standardization maintenance of all designated service line(s) instrument trays.


• Ensures designated instrument tray inventory completeness, maintenance, readiness for daily surgical cases.


• Responsible for availability of loaner and consigned trays in designated service line for daily surgical schedule.


• Uses computer to scan PIC tickets on instrument trays and case cart protocol.


• Responsible for designated case cart readiness for daily surgical schedule.


• Properly operates cleaning and sterilization equipment such as washers, sterilizers, sonic cleaners and cart washers.


• Restocks prep areas with supplies and takes inventory of sterile instrument pans and trays.


• May retrieve contaminated equipment, supplies, trays and instruments from patient care areas for cleaning and sterilization.


• May collect needles and sharps containers from Operating Room for proper disposal.


• Monitors all sterilization equipment by testing and recording indicators.


• Assists in operating room and sterile processing training staff in the identification of surgical instruments and individual pans.


• Delegates assignments and adjusts work flow to meet the most important needs.


• Accountable for the care and handling of instruments and equipment.


• Operates sterilization equipment for the proper sterilization of surgical instruments.


• Follows established sterilization policy and procedures.


• Assists in evaluating various products, supplies and equipment pertinent to designated service line(s) instrument trays.


• Coordinates semiannual tray review with service line leaders and physicians in the operating room.


• Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the principles of sterile technique and infection control; practices appropriate procedures to maintain a sterile environment.


• Performs other related duties as required.

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  
  


• A high school diploma or equivalent.


• Successful completion of a surgical technologist training program.


• Certified as a surgical technologist or sterile processing technician required.


• Two years surgical technologist experience required.

  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs.; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs., 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs., 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs. max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs.; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
