JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for an experienced leader with technical skills to lead NSW ISG R&D unit. In this role, the individual will lead and manage a large multi-site R&D unit.

The Head of ISG R&D is responsible for execution of product and technology plans in aligned, agile, and transparent working environment. The scope of the role includes line management responsibilities, recruitment, performance management, identifying training needs, communications, and engagement of the unit. As an R&D Lead the individual will be accountable to create and maintain a professional culture, where individuals take ownership and are proud of delivering excellence and quality.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & COMPETENCIES

* Lead the ISG R&D unit which has a cohesive portfolio of Industry solutions spanning NSW s Applications and Core portfolio. This position reports to the Head of ISG, NSW and therefore will be part of the ISG Leadership team.

* Manage a team of developers and testers, leading them in design, test, delivery and customer support including the hiring and integration of new employees. Goal is to make ISG R&D THE PLACE for engineers to aspire to join within Nokia.

* Execution of product and technology roadmaps in ISG R&D, agreed and built in conjunction with ISG Product Management.

* Drive technical decision making, with deep understanding of Architecture guidelines and customer use cases and challenge where required.

* Execution model leveraging lean and agile R&D organization; a start-up mindset incorporating fast sprint cycles for development is a critical success factor, executing to stiff and challenging targets.

* In building ISG solutions, maximize reuse of existing NSW cloud-native microservices and Common Software Foundation solutions, solutions available from other Nokia units, and opensource solutions.

* Drive towards creating products and solutions that are fit-for-purpose for non-CSP enterprises looking for minimal configuration, fast deployments, simple management, and fast/inexpensive upgrades/lifecycle support.

* Drive R&D efficiency, continuous improvement and quality.

* Workforce development and securing the needed capabilities for R&D execution.

QUALIFICATIONS

* Bachelor s degree or equivalent experience in Electronics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a software related discipline. A Master s degree in a related field is an added plus.

* 10+ years of experience of leadership positions in R&D building innovative solutions, preferred previous experience with leading development of innovative products in a fast and challenging environment. You are passionate about cloud-native software development, start up mentality, agile development, and a core belief that you can change the world by building world class SaaS products.

* Strategic understanding of and experience in building software platforms deployed by non-CSP customers in Government, Energy, Transportation, and related verticals.

* Experience in building cloud-native SaaS solutions related to private Wireless data/voice/video connectivity, policy, charging, customer experience, IoT, Security, Cloud, is considered a definite plus.

* Exposure to tools & processes around modern SW environment: JIRA, GIT/GERRIT, Jenkins, SAFe, modern CI and CD methods.

* Exposure to SW development technologies: Cloud Native, Microservices, Containers and Virtualization Technologies like Docker, Kubernetes (K8s), Helm, Envoy, Consul, Redis, gRPC and Open Source Integration.

* Strong Leadership, professional attitude and leading by example.

* Experience in operating and leading in a multi-site environment.

* Experience from Lean and Agile development. SAFe experience is considered an asset.

* Demonstrates strategic thinking, innovation, and creativity.

* Ability to discuss detailed technical issues with customers and management.

* Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.

* Strong interpersonal capabilities.

* High work ethic, self-motivated and a strong desire to succeed as a team.

* Ability to travel internationally 20-30% of the time.
