Job Description:

SUMMARY

* Position Summary

* This position validates and processes requests for Protected Health Information in accordance with organizational policies, HIPAA, State and Federal regulations. The Release of Information Specialist will respond/release information from the electronic medical record and or other storage medium in response to properly authorized requests. The Specialist protects the security of Protected Health Information ensures confidentiality. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to answering phones and , assists walk in customers with requests,

* Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

* Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Associates or bachelor's degree in healthcare related discipline preferred. RHIT or RHIA preferred. Formal medical terminology course required.

* License/Certifications: N/A

* Experience: At least three years' experience in Release of Information in a health care setting required. 1Previous EPIC or EMR experience preferred.

* Strong customer service orientation

* Ability to maintain patient confidentiality in performance of duties

* Effective written and verbal communication skills

* Must be able to operate multiple integrated software applications, and other programs to include resources and e-mail.

* Ability to work independently, multi task, provide instruction, prioritize and manage multiple demands while supporting strong, positive customer service relationships under pressure Computer and keyboarding skills required

* Must be detail orientated and have effective problem-solving skills.

* Advanced knowledge of HIPAA and State regulations related to release of information required

* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office software products including the ability to format Excel spreadsheets, and data entry

* Understanding of chart record content and information flow in health information management and clinical information systems.

* Comprehensive knowledge of legal parameters for release of information
